Richard Thomas Gillette, 70, passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, at his home in Lafayette.
Richard was born on Dec. 26, 1943, to Albert Jay Gillette and Virginia Counihan Gillette in St. Petersburg, Florida. He moved to Louisiana to attend Tulane University, where from 1961 to 1966 he earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting and a master of science degree in business administration, and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
Following his studies at Tulane, he enjoyed a successful career, which began with Ernst & Ernst in New Orleans and included time as the chief financial officer of Garber Industries, chief financial officer of Our Lady of Lourdes, and concluded in 2012 with his retirement from Superior Energy as vice president of accounting administration.
Richard enjoyed life as an avid golfer and tennis player, and a spectator of all sports. He was a family man that took great pleasure in spending time with his children and grandchildren, but most of all, enjoyed quality time with Sherry, reflecting on the happiness of their life.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sherry; three of their children, Stephen (and wife, Cindy) of Denham Springs, Bobby (and wife, Dawn) of Dallas, and Charlie (and wife, Jacqueline) of Lafayette; eight grandchildren, Seth, Sarah, Alexa, Caleb, Joshua, Nathaniel, Maren and Alexandra; two brothers, Joseph Gillette, of St. Petersburg, and David Gillette, of Atlanta; and two sisters, Diane Moore and Nancy Rose, of St. Petersburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Richard Anthony Gillette.
The family will observe private ceremonies of remembrance.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Hospice, 1003 Hugh Wallis Rd., Lafayette, LA 70508.
