Rogers DeHart Sr.
Rogers DeHart Sr., 88, a resident of Berwick, died today, Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, at Morgan City Healthcare Center.
He was born on Feb.10, 1926, in Deer Island, the son of Winford Malcolm and Laura Eve Aucoin DeHart.
He was a commercial fisherman for about 10 years. He enjoyed woodworking and made hundreds of little boats. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the Berwick Baptist Church and enjoyed taking care of the churchyard.
Survivors include three children, Rhonda DeHart Wilson, of Hanceville, Alabama, Rogers DeHart Jr., of Gibson, and Ferrel DeHart, of Berwick; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister and four brothers.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Twin City Funeral Home with visitation resuming from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Berwick Baptist Church. Following the services he will be laid to rest in the Berwick Cemetery Mausoleum with military honors being conducted by the East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad.
