WILLIAM RUSSELL BROWN
January 22, 1921-May 28, 2015
A humble servant of his country and of his Lord, William Russell Brown, 94, of Flint, Texas, went home to be with his Heavenly Father, and his wife of 72 years, Thursday, May 28, 2015. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Tyler, Texas, and a longtime member of the CIA Sunday School class.
Mr. Brown was born on Jan. 22, 1921, in Owassa, Alabama. He served in the U.S. Army in both World War II and the Korean War and was very proud to be a veteran. Following his military service, Mr. Brown went to work for Western Geophysical Company and retired in 1986 after working his way up from radar man to party manager.
From his marriage to his high school sweetheart, Helen Gene Gibbons in 1940, were born three daughters, Brenda Ayo of Morgan City, Louisiana, Becky Brown of Flint, Texas, and Martha Barbier (husband Keith) of Katy, Texas. His extended family includes his grandson, Lane Ayo of San Antonio, Texas; granddaughters, Lauren Barbier of San Antonio, Texas, and Jessica Estes (husband Drew) of Katy, Texas; and one great-grandson, Logan Estes of Katy, Texas. The family is especially grateful to his caregiver, Frankie Rolling, for her personal and caring service.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his brothers, Lester Brown and Elton Brown of McKenzie, Alabama, Clarence Brown of Owassa, Alabama, and his parents, William Russell Brown and Katie Pearl Brown of Owassa, Alabama.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 30, 2015, at 9 a.m. in the chapel of First Baptist Church, Tyler, Texas, with services following at 10 a.m. Rev. Pike Wisner and Rev. Bill Ballou will officiate. Burial will be in the cemetery of Olive Branch Baptist Church, Owassa, Alabama, Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 4 p.m. Arrangements are with Stewart Family Funeral Home.
If ever a man should be told by his Lord, “well done my good and faithful servant,” Mr. Brown would be that man. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and a blessing to all who knew him!
