Bernardi is Tulane senior associate athletic director

NEW ORLEANS — Tulane Director of Athletics Troy Dannen announced the hiring of Rob Bernardi as the Green Wave’s new senior associate athletic director for administration, according to a Tulane Athletics news release. Bernardi replaces Sue Bower, who departed the department last February.
Bernardi, 54, comes to Tulane from Nicholls State University, where he spent the last 15 years (2001-16) as the director of athletics. He will oversee sports medicine, strength and conditioning and the day-to-day management of 12 sports programs.
“We are thrilled Rob accepted our invitation to join the Tulane family,” Dannen said. “He brings 15 years of experience as an athletic director as well as a tremendous national reputation as a top administrator. That reputation, among other things, led to National Athletic Director of the Year honors and a spot on the prestigious NCAA Council which is redefining the governance model of college athletics. He is passionate about our community and will be a great partner in providing the support necessary to build championship level programs.”
“I couldn’t be more excited about joining Troy and his staff,” Bernardi said. “There is every reason to believe that Tulane’s best days are just ahead, and I look forward to being a part of the success. The opportunity to work at Tulane is especially gratifying given its academic reputation and rich athletics history.”
A native of Los Angeles, California, Bernardi was credited with invigorating Nicholls athletics by transforming the department into a modern, progressive program aimed at increasing funding, improving facilities and enhancing the student-athlete experience. For his efforts, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics named Bernardi 2014 Under Armour AD of the Year for the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision.
