McNeese women's track team recognized

LAKE CHARLES — McNeese women’s track and field team was recognized by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for earning Women’s NCAA Division I track and field all-academic team honors, the organization released on Thursday.
In addition to team honors, Cowgirl javelin thrower Morgan Woods earned individual USTFCCCA all-academic honors.
This is the fifth year in a row the Cowgirls have been recognized for all-academic by the organization. This year the team compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.31 and is one of five squads from the Southland Conference to garner the award (Central Arkansas, Incarnate Word, Sam Houston State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) and one of three programs from Louisiana (Louisiana–Monroe, Tulane).
Woods, a native of Lake Arthur, posted a perfect 4.0 GPA in elementary education.
The freshman had a stellar first collegiate season for the Cowgirls as she finished fourth at the Southland Conference outdoor championships and qualified for the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round.
She’s the first freshman from McNeese to achieve the honor since all-American javelin thrower Ben Chretien earned the award in 2007.
