Nicholls baseball slated to host ULL and ULM

THIBODAUX — The Nicholls State University baseball team is slated to host the University of Louisiana — Lafayette at 6 p.m. on Tuesday before a matchup against the University of Louisiana — Monroe at 6 p.m. on April 29, but the Colonels will have to face an even tougher foe as Mother Nature threatens to alter the squad’s plans.
Torrential downpours and tornado-force winds wreaked havoc on the South Louisiana region Monday, resulting in power outages, rising floodwaters and downed signs, trees and fences. With more thunderstorms in the forecast, the Colonels (24-16-1) can only wait and hope for a chance to play the midweek contests as they look to rebound from a difficult 2-1 series loss against McNeese State over the weekend.
The Ragin’ Cajuns (28-15) are riding a six-game win streak and are coming off of a 3-0 series sweep of UT-Arlington over the weekend.
The Warhawks (21-23) broke a four-game skid on Sunday with a win over Georgia Southern.
Nicholls defeated Louisiana-Lafayette 3-1, back on March 25, and earned a 3-2 win over ULM on April 8.
The Colonels are set to throw a righty Marc Frazier (1-5) on Tuesday and Cole Stapler (2-1) on Wednesday. Frazier enters with an ERA of 4.11 and has 38 strikeouts through 50 1/3 innings this season. Stapler carries an ERA of 4.50 and has fanned 18 batters in 24 innings on the hill.
Neither Louisiana-Lafayette nor ULM has released a starting pitcher at press time.
Kyle Reese paces the Colonels offensively with a .331 average, 24 runs, 18 RBIs and 13 doubles. Justin Holt has scored a team-high 25 runs and Tanner Vandevere has driven in 19 to lead the squad.
Blake Trahan spearheads the Ragin’ Cajun offense with 36 runs, 23 RBIs and a .374 batting average. Stefan Trosclair has a team-leading 30 RBIs.
Keelin Rasch paces the Warhawks offensively with a .337 average and 32 RBIs. Kodie Tidwell is second on the team with a .314 batting average and has scored a team-high 32 runs.
Both midweek matchups will be broadcast live on KTIB 640 AM.
