Time change for New Orleans, UL-Lafayette game

NEW ORLEANS — The University of New Orleans vs the University of Louisiana-Lafayette men’s basketball game on Dec. 17 has a new start time as the Privateers and Ragin’ Cajuns will now tipoff at 2 p.m. Despite the move, Cox Sports Television will still broadcast the game live from Lakefront Arena.
The decision to change the game time, originally slated to begin at 6 p.m., was reached by administrators from both schools in order to accommodate the Ragin’ Cajuns football team’s participation in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl — which will kick off later that evening — as well as UNO’s travel schedule to Logan, Utah, for the Privateers’ game against Utah State on Dec. 19.
“We are grateful for the collaboration with our Lakefront Arena colleagues as well as Cox Sports Television, the Southland Conference and UL-Lafayette officials to make this change possible,” UNO Director of Athletic Derek Morel said. “Being that the University of New Orleans and Louisiana-Lafayette are both members of the University of Louisiana system, it has certainly made this process a lot easier.”
The Privateers — who are riding the crest of a three-game winning streak, are a perfect 3-0 in home games and sit 4-3 so far on the young 2016-17 season — and the Ragin’ Cajuns will play for the second-consecutive season and UNO will be looking to snap a three-game skid in the head-to-head series, according to the UNO news release. New Orleans’ last win against UL-Lafayette came the last time the two teams played in the Crescent City as the Privateers posted a 61-58 win on Jan. 8, 2009.
Prior to the showdown with the Cajuns and the aforementioned contest at Utah State, UNO returns to action on Sunday when they travel to Evanston, Illinois, to take on Northwestern. That game will be broadcast televised live on the Big 10 Network.
