Ascension Episcopal defeats Berwick Lady Panthers

The Berwick Lady Panthers fell to Ascension Episcopal, 40-18, in non-district action at Berwick Junior High Thursday.
Ascension Episcopal led 14-3 after the first quarter, 25-9 at halftime and 33-14 after three quarters.
Asia Jackson led Berwick with 13 points, while Brittany Boudreaux contributed the other five.
Berwick (0-5) will not return to action next week when it begins play in Hanson’s tournament, which begins Wednesday.
E.D. White beats CCHS
E.D. White defeated Central Catholic 60-16 in first-day action at Vandebilt Catholic’s Jack Becker Tournament Thursday.
The Lady Eagles trailed 16-6 after the first quarter, 39-8 at halftime and 51-13 after three periods.
Mary-Beth Blanchard led the Lady Eagles with nine points and added a steal.
Other top contributors included Hallie Autin, five points, one steal and six rebounds; Taylor Picou, two points; and Sydney Williams, three steals and seven rebounds.
Central Catholic (2-4) will return to action today in the tournament when it faces Terrebonne in a 5 p.m. contest.
On Saturday, the Lady Eagles will play twice, at 12:30 against Vandebilt Catholic and again at 3:30 p.m. against Houma Christian.
Berwick boys win
The Berwick Panthers defeated Ascension Episcopal 48-44 in boys’ basketball action in Berwick Thursday.
Berwick finished 10 of 14 from the free throw line in the contest.
Donald Tillman led Berwick with 16 points.
Other scorers for the Panthers included Audwin Williams with eight, Kenan Jones, seven; Dralyn West, six; Larenz Clark, five; Brandon Naverro, four; and Cody Roberie, two.
Berwick (5-3) will not return to action until next week when it begins play in Hanson’s tournament, which begins Wednesday.
