Berwick falls to Lutcher in five games

Berwick was on the cusp from scoring a huge upset in Division III volleyball action Thursday, but the Lady Panthers just couldn’t hold on for the District 6-III win against Lutcher.
After winning the first two games against Lutcher by scores of 26-24 and 25-23, respectively, Berwick dropped a 24-26 decision in the third game that could have clinched the match for the Lady Panthers.
Instead, Lutcher, ranked No. 3 in the latest unofficial Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division 3 power rankings, responded with wins in games four (25-19) and a deciding game five (15-10) to take the district matchup.
Berwick had 12 aces and 37 kills in the match.
Junior Ashton Morales led Berwick with five aces, 15 kills, one block and seven assists, while senior Abigail Askew had 10 kills, three blocks and one assist.
Other top contributors included senior Hannah Carpenter, two aces, one kill, one assist and 11 digs; sophomore Roslyn Gros, three aces and 11 digs; sophomore Mary Jordan Melancon, three kills, one block, 12 assists and one dig; sophomore Sydney Aucoin, four kills, one assist and five digs; and junior Madeleine Hover, one ace, seven assists and one dig.
Berwick (10-8 overall, 1-1 in district) will return to action Saturday when it participates in the Geaux Pink Tournament in Baton Rouge.
Patterson sweeps
Donaldsonville
The Patterson Lumberjacks swept Donaldsonville 3-0 (25-10, 25-20, 25-21) in District 6-III volleyball action in Donaldsonville Thursday.
Patterson (9-4, 1-1) had 12 aces in the win, led by five from junior Arian Grogan and four from junior Tamia Washington.
Grogan also contributed five points, three kills and one dig, while Washington had nine points and four kills.
Other top contributors for Patterson (9-4) included junior Gaylen Grogan, two points, seven kills, three blocks and one assist; junior Nia Broussard, four points, two kills, three digs and 16 assists; sophomore Makayla Ruiz, two aces, two points, three kills and nine digs; and senior Jasmine Roberson, eight points and four digs.
In junior varsity action, Patterson won 2-1 (20-25, 25-23, 15-13).
Freshman Madison Paul had two aces, 10 points and two digs in the win, while sophomore Brianna Gray had four aces, three points, one kill and one dig.
Other top contributors included freshman Morgan Jones, one point, four kills and one dig; freshman Tapanga Haven, two points, three digs and five assists; and sophomore Erykah Singleton, one ace, one point, two kills, two digs and one block.
Morgan City falls to E.D. White
E.D. White swept Morgan City High School 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-19) in District 6-III action in Morgan City Thursday.
Senior Jaiveianna Jones led the Lady Tigers with two aces, seven kills, two blocks and eight digs, while junior Cecily Feliciano had one ace, two kills, 10 assists and six digs.
Other top contributors included junior Dwanna LeBeau, seven kills and two digs, sophomore Paige Loftin, six kills, junior Karley Guidry, two aces, one kill, five assists and three digs; and senior Brandi Ingram, one kill and seven digs.
In junior varsity action, Morgan City fell to E.D. White 2-0 (9-25, 13-25).
Sophomore Abby Reynaud had five digs, while sophomore Katelyn Gautreaux had four digs and freshman Allie Vincent, one kill and two digs.
Morgan City (6-9, 1-1) will return to action this weekend when it participates in Archbishop Hannan’s tournament, which begins today and continues Saturday.
