Berwick finished 3-0 at Panther Classic

Berwick High School finished 3-0 at its Panther Classic this weekend with wins against Lutcher, Covenant Christian and Chalmette.
The Panthers defeated Lutcher, 4-3, and Covenant Christian, 11-5, both on Friday, while on Saturday, Berwick topped Chalmette, 7-5.
In Friday’s win against Lutcher, all the scoring took place in the first three innings.
While Lutcher took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Berwick countered with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Each team scored a run apiece in the second and third innings.
Daniel Gray earned the win for the Panthers. In five innings, he surrendered three runs, one earned, on four hits with four walks, one hit batter and six strikeouts.
Nick Mayon earned the save. In two innings, he surrendered one walk and fanned three.
Offensively, Bradley Gray led Berwick with a 2-for-3 performance, while Justin Morvant was 2-for-4.
Other top offensive contributors for the Panthers included Brandon Fryou and Andrew Askew, each 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Later Friday, Berwick defeated Covenant Christian.
Berwick exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the second inning before Covenant Christian recorded an out.
Six different Panthers had RBIs and hits. The Panthers also had two walks and Covenant Christian committed two errors in the frame.
While Covenant Christian cut its deficit to 9-5 after plating three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth, Berwick added a run apiece in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings.
Fryou earned the win. In four innings, he allowed three hits, two walks and one hit batter.
D.J. Robicheaux, the third pitcher for Berwick in the game, earned the save. In 1.2 innings, he was perfect on the mound.
Offensively, Logan Angeron and Robicheaux each finished 2-for-4, while Ty Duthu was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
Other top contributors included Fryou, 1-for-3, two RBIs; Cody Roberie, 1-for-3, an RBI; and Morvant, Tanner Caldwell and Neal Theriot Jr., all 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Berwick outhit Covenant Christian 10-6, while the Lions committed four errors.
On Saturday, Berwick jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings.
Chalmette rallied with two runs in the top of the fifth, but Berwick got the two runs back in the bottom of the sixth.
Chalmette’s seventh-inning rally fell short as they could muster just two runs in the frame.
Theriot earned the win for Berwick. In 4.2 innings, he surrendered three runs, two earned, on four hits with one walk, two hit batters and six strikeouts.
Cameron Wiley, one of three Panther pitchers used, earned the save. In one inning, he surrendered two runs, one earned, on two hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Theriot led Berwick with a 2-for-2 performance with an RBI, while Wiley was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Berwick outhit Chalmette 9-6, while the Owls committed four errors.
Berwick (7-3) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Riverside in a 5 p.m. contest.
CCHS finishes 1-1 at
Episcopal Tournament
The Central Catholic Eagles finished 1-1 at the Episcopal Tournament, splitting a doubleheader Saturday.
While the Eagles defeated Pope John Paul II, 8-0, they dropped a 4-3 decision to Runnels.
Against Pope John Paul, Central Catholic plated three runs in the bottom of the first, one run in the third, three more in the fourth and one in the fifth.
Gregory Leger Jr. tossed a two-hitter with nine strikeouts in his seven innings of work.
Offensively, the Eagles pounded out 12 hits, including four doubles.
Mitchell Lemoine led Central Catholic with a 3-for-4 performance with a double, two RBIs and three runs.
Other top offensive contributors included Patrick Barron, 3-for-4, an RBI; Blake Hidalgo, 2-for-4, a double, an RBI; Thomas Garber, 1-for-3, a double, two RBIs; Leger, 1-for-3, an RBI; and Matthew Barbier, 1-for-3, a double, two runs.
The Eagles left 10 runners on base.
In the Eagles’ second game against Runnels, Central Catholic fell 4-3.
The Eagles surrendered the winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a bases-loaded walk.
Offensively, Central Catholic was limited to four hits in the loss and left nine runners on base while its defense committed four errors.
Patrick Barron suffered the loss. In 0.2 innings, he surrendered two earned runs on three hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Hidalgo started the game, and in 5.1 innings, he surrendered two earned runs on five hits with three walks and fanned six.
While Central Catholic plated a run in the top of the first, Runnels came back with a run in the bottom of the frame.
Central Catholic retook the lead at 2-1 in the top of the fourth, but Runnels came back with a run in the bottom of the sixth.
Central Catholic took a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh before Runnels rallied with two runs in their final at bat.
Central Catholic’s offensive leaders were Lemoine, 2-for-3, an RBI; Hidalgo, 1-for-1, a double; and Barbier, an RBI.
Runnels outhit Central Catholic 8-4.
Central Catholic’s game Friday against St. Michael’s was canceled.
Patterson finished 1-2
at Hanson’s tournament
The Patterson Lumberjacks finished 1-2 at Hanson’s tournament, falling to host Hanson 3-2 and Rayne 5-1, while picking up a 12-3 win in between against Highland Baptist.
In the loss to Hanson Friday, Hanson scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a passed ball.
While Patterson led 1-0 after the first inning, Hanson tied the game in the bottom of the third and took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Patterson retied the game in the top of the fifth.
Hanson outhit Patterson 8-3 and overcame 10 runners left on base for the win.
Kenny Singleton suffered the loss. In six innings, he surrendered three runs, one earned, on eight hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.
In 0.2 of an inning, Jake Lagrange fanned one.
Singleton and Brennen Gouaux each finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base for Patterson.
Patterson bounced back Saturday with a 12-3 victory against Highland Baptist.
Patterson erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the first and added single runs in the second and fourth innings.
While Highland Baptist avoided a mercy-rule ending with three runs in the top of the fifth, Patterson came back with two more in the bottom of the fifth.
Singleton led Patterson with a 2-for-4 performance with three RBIs and two runs, while Lukas Carnley was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs.
Other top offensive contributors included Tyrik Singleton, 2-for-4, three RBIs, two runs; Lagrange, 2-for-4, an RBI, a run; Joel Singleton, 1-for-2, a double, an RBI, two runs; and Jamey Fabre, 1-for-2, an RBI, a run.
Patterson outhit Highland Baptist 11-7
Joel Singleton earned the win. In six innings, he surrendered three earned runs on six hits with five walks and six strikeouts.
In one inning of relief, Brad Beaubouef surrendered one hit and fanned two.
Against Rayne, each team scored a run in the second.
However, Rayne took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the third and one more in the bottom of the fifth.
Patterson was limited to three hits in the loss.
Gouaux finished 1-for-2 with a double; Tyrik Singleton, 1-for-3 with a double, a run; and Carnley, 1-for-3, an RBI.
Gouaux suffered the loss. In six innings, he surrendered five runs, three earned, on six hits with three walks and fanned two.
Morgan City finished 0-3
at Panther Classic
Morgan City finished 0-3 at the Panther Classic this weekend, dropping a 4-0 contest to Chalmette Friday, a 4-2 contest to Lutcher Saturday, and a 6-4 contest to Covenant Christian.
