Berwick sweeps DeQuincy, will meet Rayne Monday

The Berwick Lady Panthers knocked off DeQuincy High School 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-17) in Division III first-round volleyball action Thursday.
“The girls played a great game tonight,” Berwick coach Heather Blanchard said. “I’m really proud of the way we started the game with intensity and were able to get ahead early in the match. Tonight was another example of the senior leadership I’ve had all season, and I look forward to playing at Rayne on Monday.”
Berwick, the No. 12 seed, will face Rayne, the No. 5 seed, at 5 p.m. Monday at Rayne High School.
In Thursday’s matchup against No. 21 DeQuincy, the Lady Panthers recorded six blocks and 52 digs.
Ashton Morales led the Lady Panthers with 11 kills, three blocks, 10 assists and seven digs, while Abigail Askew had nine kills, three blocks and three digs.
Other top contributors included Mary Jordan Melancon, one ace, five kills, nine assists and two digs; Hannah Carpenter, 17 digs; Jordan Lipari, one ace, one kill, three assists and six digs; Sydney Aucoin, five kills and three digs; Madeleine Hover, one kill, seven assists and two digs; and Rennen DeLatte, seven digs.
With the win, Berwick improves to 21-15, while DeQuincy finishes its season with a 16-15 mark.
