Berwick sweeps Ellender

The Berwick High School volleyball team swept Ellender at home Monday 3-0 (25-11, 25-20, 25-16).
Berwick had 12 aces and six blocks in the win.
Ashton Morales led the squad with one ace, 11 kills, 3 blocks, 4 assists and 6 digs, while Mary Jordan Melancon had 2 aces, 3 kills, 2 blocks, 9 assists and 9 digs.
Other top contributors included Brittany Roberie, 4 aces and 16 digs; Jordan Lipari, 4 aces and 9 digs; and Sydney Aucoin, 3 kills and 9 digs.
In junior varsity action, Berwick defeated Ellender 2-1 (25-22, 26-28, 15-9).
This past weekend, the Lady Panthers finished 1-3 at Woodlawn of Baton Rouge’s tournament.
Berwick defeated St. Martin’s Episcopal 2-1 (25-12, 22-25, 15-11) but fell to Parkview 2-0 (25-10, 25-16), Ponchatoula 2-1 (14-25, 26-24, 3-15) and Springfield 2-1 (17-25, 25-13, 9-15).
Against Parkview, Morales led Berwick with 2 kills, 3 assists and 12 digs, while Roberie had 9 digs.
Other top contributors included Emma Hover, 6 digs; Madeleine Hover, 1 kill and 4 assists; Aucoin, 2 kills and 3 digs; and Rosalyn Gros, 1 ace, 1 assist and 2 digs.
Against Ponchatoula, Morales led Berwick with 1 ace, 7 kills, 3 blocks, 7 assists and 13 digs.
Other top contributors included Melancon, 1 ace, 1 kill, 7 assists and 11 digs; Emma Hover and Roberie, 9 digs apiece; Aucoin, 5 kills; Lipari, 1 ace, 1 kill and 3 digs; and Gros, 6 digs.
Against St. Martin’s Episcopal, Berwick had 7 aces, 5 blocks and 72 digs.
Morales had 1 ace, 2 kills, 4 blocks, 7 assists and 10 digs, while Melancon had 1 ace, 3 kills, 1 block, 5 assists and 11 digs.
Other top contributors included Roberie, 2 aces and 19 digs; Gros, 1 ace and 13 digs; Lauren Skinner, 3 kills and 3 digs; Madelyn Gros, 1 kill and 5 digs; and Emma Hover, 1 ace and 5 digs.
Against Springfield, Morales had 1 ace, 12 kills, 2 blocks, 1 assist and 18 digs, while Melancon had 1 ace, 2 kills, 12 assists and 9 digs.
Other top contributors included Roberie, 1 ace and 10 digs; Madelyn Gros, 1 block and 7 digs; Emma Hover, 6 digs; and Lipari, 1 ace and 3 digs.
Also, in Wednesday’s loss to Thibodaux, Madelyn Gros’ stats were incorrectly reported. She had 8 kills, 2 assists and 9 digs.
Berwick (7-9) will return to action today when it hosts Morgan City in both teams’ District 8-III opener. Freshmen action will begin at 3:30 p.m., while junior varsity will follow at 4:30 p.m. and varsity at 5:30 p.m.
John Curtis sweeps
Central Catholic
Central Catholic fell 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-22) to John Curtis in River Ridge Monday.
Yani Johnson led Central Catholic with 5 kills and 4 blocks.
Other top contributors included Brooke Lipari, 9 digs; Quincee Wiggins, 8 digs; and Taylor Picou, 5 assists.
Central Catholic (10-13) will not return to action until Saturday when it participates in Archbishop Hannan’s tournament in Covington. The Lady Eagles will play at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.
