Berwick tops CLA 47-43 for first win in two years

The Berwick Lady Panthers earned not only their first win of the season but their first victory in two years Friday with a 47-43 win against Christian Life Academy in Berwick.
The win snapped a 42-game losing streak that began Dec. 6, 2013, with a 28-17 loss to Centerville.
Prior to Friday night’s win, the Lady Panthers’ last victory came Dec. 2, 2013, in a 33-8 victory against Covenant Christian.
While the Lady Panthers trailed 25-23 at the half in Friday’s victory, they outscored Christian Life 12-9 both in the third and fourth quarters for the victory.
Berwick led 14-9 after a quarter.
No individual stats were available.
The Lady Panthers (1-5) will return to action Wednesday when they travel to face Vandebilt Catholic in a 6 p.m. contest.
CCHS splits
weekend games
Central Catholic split its weekend games at Vandebilt Catholic’s Jack Becker Classic, topping Terrebonne, 48-33, Friday and falling to E.D. White, 37-31, Saturday.
No individual stats were available.
On Thursday, the Lady Eagles fell in their tournament opener to H.L. Bourgeois, 46-30.
Lydia Rivas led the Lady Eagles with 14 points, two rebounds and one steal, while Hallie Autin had eight points, three assists and two steals.
Central Catholic (6-3) will return to action Thursday when it begins District 7-1A play at Ascension Episcopal in a 4 p.m. contest.
Morgan City falls at
St. Charles Shootout
The Morgan City Lady Tigers fell 54-20 to John Curtis at the St. Charles Shootout Friday.
Laqwaijha Bourgeois led Morgan City with 10 points, while Alisha Singleton scored nine and Sh’Diamond Holly added a point.
Morgan City (4-4) won’t return to action until this Friday when it begins play in Walker’s tournament with a 2:30 p.m. contest against Maurepas.
