Berwick tops Patterson in teams' District 8-3A opener

Berwick defeated Patterson, 11-3, Thursday in Berwick in both teams’ District 8-3A opener.
Berwick took a 1-0 lead after three innings and expanded it to 5-0 after four.
While Patterson cut its deficit to 5-2 after the top of the fifth, Berwick responded with six runs in the bottom of the frame for an 11-2 advantage.
Patterson plated another run in the top of the sixth.
Sydney Aucoin earned the win for Berwick. In five innings, she surrendered two unearned runs on two hits with one strikeout.
Offensively, Jordan Lipari and Aucoin led Berwick. Lipari was 3-for-4 with two doubles, five RBIs and a run, while Aucoin was 3-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and a run.
Other top contributors included Mary Jordan Melancon, 2-for-4, an RBI and two runs; Madison Carline, 1-for-4, a double, an RBI and two runs; Jaci Arnold, 1-for-4, an RBI and a run; and Mary Grace Theriot, an RBI and a run.
Tapanga Haven suffered the loss. In seven innings, she surrendered 11 runs on 13 hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Offensively, Makayla Knight led Patterson with a 2-for-3 performance with a double and a run. Other top contributors included Hailey Sehon, 1-for-3, an RBI and a run; Madison Goolsby, 1-for-3, an RBI; and Shea Fontenot, 1-for-2, an RBI.
Patterson (1-4 overall, 0-1 in district) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Franklin in a district doubleheader. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
Berwick (4-1) will return to action today when it opens play in its annual Lady Panther Classic. Berwick will meet Vandebilt Catholic today in a 3 p.m. contest at Berwick High School. On Saturday, Berwick will meet Morgan City at 11 a.m. and Cecilia at 1:45 p.m., both at Berwick High School.
CCHS run-rules Highland Baptist
Central Catholic snapped a four-game losing streak with a 16-0 run-rule victory against Highland Baptist in three innings Thursday in District 7-1A action at the Bayou Vista Community Center.
Central Catholic jumped out to an 11-0 lead after an inning and added five runs in the second frame.
Hallie Autin and Brooke Lipari led Central Catholic’s 12-hit attack as both connected on home runs. Autin finished 2-for-2 with a double, a home run, five RBIs and two runs. Lipari was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, four RBIs, two stolen bases and three runs.
Other top offensive contributors included Kaleigh Navarro, 2-for-2, an RBI, two stolen bases and two runs; Emma Aucoin and Kelly Russo, each 2-for-2, with an RBI, a stolen base and two runs; Tori Estay, 1-for-2, a double, two RBIs and a run; and Cameron McDaniel, 1-for-3, a double, an RBI and a run.
On the mound, pitcher Sarah Thomas tossed a two-hitter to earn the win. In three innings, she fanned two.
Central Catholic (2-4) will return to action today when it faces Assumption at 3 p.m. at Berwick’s Lady Panther Classic. The game will be played at the Berwick Civic Complex.
On Saturday, Morgan City and Central Catholic will meet at 9 a.m. at Berwick High. At 1:45 p.m. at the Berwick Civic Complex, Central Catholic will play E.D. White.
