Berwick wins; Morgan City falls in Thursday night action

Berwick High School did something Thursday night its hasn't done in 20 years: Beat Patterson.
The Panthers held off a late Patterson charge for a 42-35 victory in District 8-3A action in Berwick.
The win ended a 20-year losing streak for the Panthers against their neighboring rivals. Berwick hadn't beaten Patterson since a 28-14 win in Patterson in 1996.
With the win, Berwick improves to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in district, while Patterson slips to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in district.
Berwick will return to action Oct. 14 when it travels to face Kaplan in a district contest, while Patterson will host E.D. White the same night.
Meanwhile, in Morgan City Thursday, South Lafourche shut out Morgan City, 59-0.
With the loss, Morgan City falls to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in District 7-4A. The Tigers will return to action next Friday when they travel to face Ellender.
