Berwick's Jones records three top finishes at prep qualifier

Berwick High School’s Kenan Jones led the local contingent of competitors at Saturday’s indoor LSU High School Qualifier as he won the long jump, high jump and triple jump.
The junior recorded a leap of 6 feet, 4 inches in the high jump, a mark of 21 feet, 11.25 inches in the long jump and a mark of 46 feet, 9 inches in the triple jump.
The meet was composed of competitors of all classes competing against each other.
Meanwhile, teammate Josh Carver finished tied for seventh in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 8 inches.
Other Berwick High competitors included Matthew Legendre with a 12th-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 42 feet, 3.75 inches, Orry Arcemont with a 17th place finish in the shot put with a 41-foot, 2.5 inch effort; Ian Valdez with a 35th place finish in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5 minutes, 6.9 seconds and Alvin Jones with a 35th-place finish in the 400-meter run with a time of 55.59.
Berwick’s 4x200-meter relay of finished 13th with a time of 1:37.5. The team was comprised of Alvin Jones, Josh Jones, Arcemont and Donte Short.
The Panthers’ 4x800-meter teal finished 15th with a time of 9:39.51.
Berwick High’s Caleb Perry also competed in the preliminary action in the 60-meter hurdles, and he clocked in with a time of 12.18 seconds for a 30th place finish, while Josh Jones and Short also competed in the 60-meter dash prelims. Jones finished 53rd with a time of 7.509, while Short finished 88th with a time of 7.77.
Meanwhile, Central Catholic had two competitors in three total events. Sydney Holder competed in the long jump and the prelims of the 60-meter dash. Holder finished 37th in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 5.75 inches, while he finished 84th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.702.
Central Catholic’s Cade Minton finished 57th in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:27.35.
