CCHS advances to Class 1A finals

Central Catholic recorded a walk-off RBI-single in the bottom of the seventh inning of its semifinal contest against Hanson Friday for a 1-0 victory and advance to its first Class 1A state championship game since 2013.
Drake Angeron connected on a two-out single to score Stefano Guarisco from second base. Guarisco had preceded Angeron's at bat with a two-out double to left field.
The game's dramatic finish concluded a masterful pitching duel between Central Catholic's Blake Hidalgo and Hanson's John Guienze. Hidalgo surrendered five hits and fanned 10. Guienze surrendered one run on six hits with two intentional walks and five strikeouts.
Central Catholic (27-4), Class 1A's top seed, now will play No. 7 Oak Grove Saturday at 4 p.m. on Field 37. Oak Grove advanced to the finals with a 9-4 victory against No. 6 Vermilion Catholic earlier Friday.
Hanson concludes its season with a 22-9 record.
