CCHS cracks top 10 in LSWA Class 1A poll

Central Catholic cracked the top 10 in Class 1A, while Patterson fell five spots in Class 3A in the latest Louisiana Sports Writers Association prep football polls.
The Eagles, who defeated St. John of Plaquemine 54-27 Thursday, are No. 9 in this week’s poll with 38 points.
Central Catholic was the top vote-getter outside the top 10 a week ago.
They will travel to face Class 2A Opelousas Catholic Friday.
Central Catholic is one of three members of District 7-1A who was ranked this week as Vermilion Catholic is ranked No. 3 and received one first-place vote and 69 points, while Ascension Episcopal is No. 7 with 61 points. Vermilion Catholic and Ascension Episcopal were ranked Nos. 4 and 9, respectively, a week ago.
Southern Lab took over the top spot in Class 1A this week from Haynesville. The Kittens received eight first-place votes and 128 points. They were No. 2 a week ago.
Meanwhile, in Class 3A, Patterson fell from No. 5 to No. 10 following its 24-13 loss to Class 5A Central Lafourche.
The Lumberjacks received 30 points in this week’s poll.
Patterson will return to action Friday when it travels to face another Class 5A opponent, Hahnville.
Patterson’s District 8-3A foe, E.D. White, is ranked No. 7 in this week’s poll, up a spot from a week ago. The Cardinals received 59 points.
Another District 8-3A foe of Patterson’s, Kaplan, received 20 votes this week.
Parkview Baptist is the new No. 1 team in Class 3A this week, moving up two spots and replacing University Lab, who is ranked No. 3 this week. Parkview Baptist received 122 points and three first-place votes, while University received two first-place votes and 111 points.
In Class 4A, Neville retained its top spot. The squad received 132 points and all 11 first-place votes.
