CCHS hoops teams sweep Centerville

Central Catholic outscored Centerville, 31-22, in the second half, including a 17-10 fourth-quarter advantage en route to a 61-54 victory in District 7-1A action in Morgan City Friday.
Trailing 32-30 at halftime, Central Catholic outscored Centerville, 14-12, in the third quarter, and the teams entered the fourth quarter tied at 44.
In the final period, the Eagles outscored the Bulldogs for the win.
Centerville took a 22-18 lead after a quarter of play, and Central Catholic cut its deficit to two points at halftime after outscoring the Bulldogs, 12-10, in the second period.
Central Catholic connected on five three-pointers, four of those by Samarick Paul, who led the squad with 23 points. Other scorers included Brooks Thomas and Elijah Swan with 11 points each, Ja’len Johnson, nine; Davidyione Bias, four; and Blake Byrne, three.
Centerville made 10 three-pointers.
Central Catholic (5-6 overall, 1-1 in district) will continue league play Tuesday when it travels to face Highland Baptist in a 6 p.m. contest.
Berwick routs Erath
The Berwick Panthers routed the Erath Bobcats, 59-13, in District 8-3A action on the road Friday.
Berwick took a 16-6 lead in the first quarter and extended its lead to 27-8 at the half and 36-10 after three quarters.
The Panthers defense held Erath to no more than three points in any quarter after the Bobcats scored six in the first quarter.
Berwick had six three-pointers.
The Panthers had four players reach double figures, led by Larenz Clark’s 16 points. Other scorers included Travis Whitehead, 12; Josh Carver, 11; Donald Tillman, 10; Cody Roberie, five; Dayton Clark, three; and Tysin Meads, two.
Berwick (13-8, 2-0) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Patterson in district action. The varsity contest is set to begin at approximately 7:15 p.m.
MCHS game postponed
Morgan City High School’s contest against Westgate Friday was postponed due to the cold weather.
The two teams will meet on Jan. 18.
Morgan City (10-5) will return to action Tuesday when it opens District 7-4A action at Vandebilt Catholic. The varsity contest is set for a 7:15 p.m. start.
CCHS Lady Eagles ease past Centerville
The Central Catholic Lady Eagles eased past Centerville, 65-37, in District 7-1A action in Morgan City Friday.
Central Catholic outscored Centerville in the first three quarters, taking a 16-0 lead after a quarter, a 36-9 lead at halftime and a 51-22 lead after three quarters.
Aaliya Poole led three Lady Eagles in double figures with 17 points. Other scorers included Hallie Autin, 15; Yani Johnson, 12; Taylor Picou, seven; Sydney Williams, five; Emma Aucoin and Lexi Landry, three apiece; Rebecca David, two; and Rachel Rogers, one.
Each team connected on seven three-pointers.
Central Catholic (8-7, 2-1) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Highland Baptist in league play. Varsity action is set for a 5:30 p.m. start.
Erath defeats Berwick
Erath High School defeated Berwick High School, 56-30, in District 8-3A girls’ basketball action in Erath Friday.
No individual statistics were submitted for Berwick.
Berwick (2-14, 0-3) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Patterson in a district contest set for a 6 p.m. start.
