CCHS is ranked sixth in preseason Class 1A poll

Central Catholic is ranked sixth in the preseason Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A football poll.
The Eagles received 86 points, just behind No. 5 Oak Grove, who had 88 points.
Central Catholic opens its season Thursday with a home game against St. John of Plaquemine.
Southern Lab is Class 1A’s top-ranked team as the squad received eight first-place votes and 127 points.
Central Catholic had two District 7-1A opponents also receive recognition. Ascension Episcopal is No. 9 in the inaugural poll with 43 points, while Vermilion Catholic is the first-team outside the top 10 with 30 points.
No other Tri-City area team was ranked or received votes.
In Class 3A, one District 8-3A opponent of Patterson received recognition. Kaplan is ranked No. 7 with 60 points.
Lutcher is Class 3A’s top-ranked squad as the team received 130 points and nine first-place votes.
Brother Martin is Class 5A’s top-ranked squad, while Neville is ranked No. 1 in Class 4A. Notre Dame is Class 2A’s top-ranked team.
