CCHS slips a spot in latest Class 1A poll

Central Catholic slipped a spot in this week’s Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A poll following the team’s 34-27 loss to Opelousas Catholic a week ago.
The Eagles are ranked No. 5 in this week’s poll. The Eagles received 89 points, two behind No. 4 St. Mary’s.
Central Catholic’s opponent Thursday, Ascension Catholic, received 15 votes in this week’s poll.
Central Catholic’s District 7-1A opponent, Ascension Episcopal surged up the poll to No. 3 this week. The Blue Gators were tied with Oak Grove for the No. 6 ranking a week ago.
Another District 7-1A team, Vermilion Catholic, received two votes in this week’s poll
Haynesville replaces Southern Lab as the new top-ranked team in Class 1A after Southern Lab fell a week ago to University Lab, then-ranked No. 9 in Class 3A. Haynesville received 10 of 11 first-place votes and 131 points.
In Class 3A, Kaplan remained at No. 6. Kaplan is a District 8-3A opponent of Berwick and Patterson.
Lutcher remained 3A’s top-ranked squad with a 2-0 mark and 131 points. The Bulldogs received 10 of 11 first-place votes.
Patterson High School’s opponent this week, Class 2A Catholic High-New Iberia, remained ranked No. 10 this week. The Panthers are 2-0 and received 36 points.
Patterson’s opponent a week ago, Hahnville, received four votes in the Class 5A poll. The Lumberjacks fell to Hahnville, 30-0.
In Class 4A, Neville remained No. 1. The Tigers, 2-0 this season, received 132 points and all 11 first-place votes.
