Central’s Thomas reaches state tennis finals

Central Catholic advanced a singles competitor to the finals of the Division IV’s Region IV Tournament at the University of New Orleans’ Tennis Center.
Central Catholic’s Emma Thomas advanced to the finals before falling to a competitor from Isidore Newman, 6-0, 6-1.
She began singles play Monday with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Kristen Macke of Pope John Paul, which advanced her to the quarterfinals and qualified her for state tournament play.
In the quarterfinals, she defeated Alexandra Herman of Isidore Newman 6-4, 6-2.
On Tuesday, she defeated Abby Rosenberg of Metairie Park Country Day 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals.
Central Catholic’s doubles’ teams of Lynze Belle and Lindsee Case, and Ashley Daigle and Brooke Picou qualified for state tournament play, too.
Bell-Case defeated Sydney Dannagl and Margaux Laibe of Louise S. McGehee 6-2, 6-0 before knocking off Angela Finch and Sydney Gressaffa of Pope John Paul, 6-4, 6-2, to qualify for the state tournament.
In the quarterfinals, the duo fell to No. 1 seed Chloe Carpenter and Chandler Nguyen of Metairie Park Country Day, 6-0, 6-1.
Daigle-Picou defeated Holly Estopinal and Abigail Estopinal of Pope John Paul 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals and qualify for state.
In the quarterfinals, the duo fell to Charlotte Freeman and Victoria Marcus of Isidore Newman, 6-4, 6-2.
In other girls doubles action, Bethany Acosta and Maddie Gill of Northlake Christian defeated Central Catholic’s Elise Hidalgo and Kerrylyn Luc, 6-2, 6-1.
In boys’ doubles action, Central Catholic’s Luke Brinkley and Gavin Wisdom fell 6-0, 6-0 to Metairie Park Country Day’s Robert Livedois and Morgan Farrell, while Carter Higbee and Blake Powers of Archbishop Hannan defeated Central Catholic’s Connor Hebert and Sal Grizzaffi 6-4, 6-4.
In boys singles action, Michael Condon of Pope John Paul defeated Central Catholic’s Gage Theriot 6-4, 6-3.
