Central Lafourche tops MCHS for title

Central Lafourche knocked off Morgan City 61-53 in Morgan City High School’s Tiger Classic championship game.
While the game was tied at 16 after the first quarter, Central Lafourche outscored Morgan City 18-8 in the second quarter, pulling away late in the half for a 34-24 halftime advantage.
Central Lafourche led 47-39 after three quarters and, while Morgan City cut its deficit to 47-45 in the fourth quarter, they couldn’t keep pace with the Trojans.
Free throw shooting hurt the Tigers as they missed multiple attempts in the contest.
Ke’sean Francois led the team with 13 points, while Cedric Gant also reached double figures with 12.
Other scorers included Tywan Walker and Taaj Daniels, nine points apiece; Makye Richard, seven; Kerwin Francois, two; and Lloyd Singleton, one.
In Wednesday’s 77-42 victory against South Terrebonne, Gant led Morgan City with 20 points, while Daniels had 19. Kerwin Francois and Richard each added nine points in the victory.
Morgan City (4-2) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face West St. Mary.
Berwick wins
The Berwick Panthers defeated Ascension Episcopal 36-25 at Ascension Episcopal’s tournament Wednesday.
In a back-and-forth game, tied at 20 after three quarters, Berwick took control in the fourth period, outscoring Ascension Episcopal 16-5 for the victory.
While Berwick trailed 11-8 after the first quarter, the Panthers took a 17-14 halftime lead after outscoring the Blue Gators 9-3 in the second period.
Kenan Jones led the Panthers with 13 points, while Audwin Williams also reached double figures with 10 points.
Other top contributors included Travis Whitehead, nine; Donald Tillman, seven; and Cody Roberie and Larenz Clark, two points apiece.
Berwick (2-1) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Ascension Catholic.
