Metairie Park Country Day rolled past Central Catholic, 90-37, in a battle of top 10 Class 1A teams Wednesday.
Country Day, the two-time defending Class 1A state champion and ranked No. 4 in the latest unofficial Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 1A power rankings, took a 21-2 lead after the first quarter and extended its lead to 45-14 at halftime en route to the easy nondistrict win against Central Catholic, ranked No. 9 in the latest rankings.
Stefano Guarisco and Tanner Wiggins led Central Catholic with eight points each.
Other scorers for the Eagles included Matt Vorenkamp, six; Demarcus Mitchell, five; Blake Byrne and Jalen Johnson, four each; and Samarick Paul, two.
Central Catholic (13-13) will close out District 7-1A play as well as its regular season Friday when it hosts Gueydan. A 6 p.m. varsity contest will be played.
Morgan City finishes as
district runner-up
The Morgan City Tigers concluded their season as the District 7-4A runner-up after Ellender defeated Vandebilt Catholic 64-51 in both team’s regular season finale Wednesday.
Morgan City, which concluded its regular season Monday with a 54-47 win at Assumption, had a chance for a three-way tie for the district championship between Ellender, Vandebilt Catholic and Morgan City had Vandebilt Catholic defeated Ellender.
The Tigers (16-8) finished district play with a 6-2 mark and Vandebilt Catholic and Ellender entered Wednesday’s contests with district records of 5-2 and 6-1, respectively.
Morgan City now will turn its attention to Class 4A postseason. Brackets will be released Monday.
