Hover's RBI single lifts Taco Bell to 3-2 win

Staff Report

Ryan Hover’s walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh pushed Taco Bell (Berwick) past Cardinal Lumber (Patterson) 3-2 in Swampland baseball action Thursday in Berwick.
Hover’s game-winning hit came an inning after Brandon Fryou’s two-RBI single tied the game at two in the bottom of the sixth.
“The players really competed the entire game,” Taco Bell head coach Mike Thomas said.
Thomas said Fryou’s two-run single in the sixth gave them the momentum.
Cardinal Lumber had the lead for much of the game as the squad took a 2-0 lead in the third inning.
On the mound, Kyle Pitre earned the win in relief. In 2.2 innings, he surrendered three hits and fanned three.
D.J. Robicheaux started the game and in 4.1 innings, he surrendered two unearned runs on three hits with three walks and fanned three.
“D.J. Robicheaux and Kyle Pitre both did an excellent job of pounding the strike zone,” Thomas said. “Our pitchers did a great job of getting out of innings with runners in scoring position.”
Cardinal Lumber stranded eight runners in scoring position and in all, 12 on base.
“It’s difficult to win games like that,” Cardinal Lumber coach Ryan Jensen said.
Offensively, Fryou led Taco Bell with a 3-for-3 performance with two RBIs, while Ryan Hover was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Joel Singleton suffered the loss for Cardinal Lumber. In 6.1 innings, he surrendered three runs — two earned — on five hits with four strikeouts.
“Joel gave us every opportunity to win the game, and we just didn’t get the job done,” Jensen said.
Bryce Beaubouef led Cardinal Lumber with a 2-for-3 performance with an RBI.
