Morgan City High School’s Brandi Ingram will be headed to Grambling State on a softball scholarship.
She also will walk on to the volleyball team.
Ingram, along with her cousin and Grambling volleyball signee Jaiveianna Jones, were referred to Grambling by a volleyball referee who had called their games, said that going to the next level is an achievement of goals.
“I always wanted to play college volleyball and softball,” she said.
On the softball diamond, Ingram was an honorable mention Class 4A All-State selection a year ago.
This season, she made the move on defense from second base where she said she has played in years past to shortstop.
On the collegiate level, she expects to play either shortstop or second base. Her preference, however, is second base.
“They’re getting a great kid,” said Morgan City coach Tamara Keller, who played college softball at Texas State. “I’ve always pushed her to play at the next level. Over the summer, she was really looking into playing and then she kind of changed her mind a little bit on me, and I’m glad that she decided to change her mind (again). She’s a gamer, that’s for sure. She wants to win. She’s pretty much a coach’s dream. She’ll do what she’s supposed to do. She shows up every game.”
As a junior, Ingram batted .462 for the Lady Tigers with 11 doubles, one triple, three home runs and 26 RBIs. She also scored 26 runs. She had an on-base percentage of .510 and a slugging percentage of .703.
On the volleyball court, Ingram will play libero at Grambling.
“I think she’s going to be an asset,” Morgan City head coach Christy Theriot said. “She can also be an offensive asset.”
Theriot said that because both Ingram and Jones, who said she will play middle hitter at Grambling, have been playing together for so long, that will help them.
