'Jacks open district with 3-1 victory against Kaplan

The Patterson Lumberjacks opened District 8-3A action Tuesday with a 3-1 victory against Kaplan at Patterson.
Patterson scored a run each in the first, third and fourth innings.
Kaplan scored its lone run in the top of the fifth.
Patterson overcame four errors in the contest.
Brennan Gouaux earned the win. In a complete-game effort, he surrendered one earned run on five hits with one walk and fanned five.
Offensively, Joel Singleton led Patterson with a 2-for-3 performance with a double, a stolen base and an RBI. Other top contributors included Bryce Beaubouef, 2-for-2, a stolen base and a run; Brad Beaubouef, 1-for-3, a double and an RBI; Tyrik Singleton, 1-for-2, a double and a run; and Jamey Fabre, an RBI.
Patterson (9-7 overall, 1-0 in district) will return to action Thursday when it travels to face Kaplan in a 5:30 p.m. contest.
Morgan City defeats South Lafourche
The Morgan City Tigers opened District 7-4A action Tuesday with a 2-0 victory against South Lafourche.
Morgan City pitcher Rhett Fryou tossed a complete-game two-hitter in the victory. In seven innings, Fryou surrendered two hits, two walks and fanned four.
Morgan City scored a run each in the second and sixth innings.
The teams combined for just six hits in the contest.
Morquisse Charles led Morgan City with a 2-for-3 performance with an RBI, three stolen bases and a run.
Morgan City (8-9, 1-0) will return to action Thursday when it travels to face South Lafourche in a 6 p.m. contest.
Central Catholic
run-rules Centerville
The Central Catholic Eagles run-ruled Centerville, 11-1, in five innings in District 7-1A action in Amelia Tuesday.
While the game originally was scheduled to be played in Centerville, inclement field conditions from rain prompted the move.
While Central Catholic and Centerville each plated a run in the first inning, the Eagles scored another in the second, four in the third, one in the fourth and four in the fifth to end the game via the 10-run mercy rule.
Stefano Guarisco led Central Catholic with a 2-for-2 performance with a double, three RBIs, two stolen bases and a run. Other top offensive contributors included Mitchell Lemoine, 2-for-3, a double, two RBIs and a run; Patrick Barron, 1-for-3, two RBIs and a run; Blake Hidalgo, 1-for-1, a double, an RBI and a run; Thomas Garber, 1-for-2, an RBI; Charlie Solar, an RBI and a run; and Drake Angeron, an RBI.
Gregory Leger earned the win. In five innings, he surrendered one earned run on two hits with three walks, four hit batters and fanned four.
Central Catholic left nine runners on base in the win.
Central Catholic (13-2, 3-0) will return to action today when it travels to take on Jesuit in a 5 p.m. contest.
Berwick falls to Erath
Berwick dropped a 6-1 decision to Erath in District 8-3A action in Berwick Tuesday.
Erath, ranked No. 3 in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A power rankings, scored four runs in the first.
While Berwick countered with a run in the bottom of the second, it could get no closer as Erath extended its lead to 6-1 in the top of the fifth.
Berwick committed five errors in the loss and were limited to just one hit, a single by Bradley Gray. Gray finished the game 1-for-2.
Cameron Wiley suffered the loss as he surrendered six runs — one earned — on three hits with one walk, three hit batters and struck out one.
Berwick (7-13, 2-1) will return to action Thursday when it travels to face Erath in a 5 p.m. contest.
