'Jills improve to 3-0 in District 8-3A

Patterson didn’t get very many points in the fourth quarter of Friday’s District 8-3A contest with Kaplan at Patterson.
Fortunately for them, they didn’t need many because Kaplan wasn’t scoring much, either.
Alex Benjamin scored the Lumberjills’ lone points of the final period via a bucket with about 30 second left and the Lumberjills held off Kaplan, 28-26 to improve to 3-0 in district play and 6-5 overall.
Benjamin’s bucket, the biggest of the game, was her lone points of the night.
Kaplan, meanwhile, managed just three points in the final period, all from the free throw line.
Patterson took a 26-23 lead into the fourth quarter when Erykah Singleton’s half-court one-handed buzzer beater gave the Lumberjills the lead. Singleton led Patterson with 13 points. She also had four rebounds.
Kaplan led 9-8 after the first period and 17-13 at the half.
However, Patterson outscored them 13-6 in the third quarter for a 26-23 lead after three quarters. Singleton scored all of the Lumberjills’ points in the period.
Other top contributors for Patterson included Kem Williams, eight points, three rebounds and one assist; Kemiah Watson, three points and two rebounds; Nyla Holder, two points and one rebound; Benjamin, two points and three rebounds; and Makayla Ruiz five rebounds and one assist.
Patterson will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Berwick in a District 8-3A contest set for a 6:30 p.m. start.
Central Catholic
defeats Centerville
Central Catholic defeated Centerville 37-31 in District 7-1A action in Centerville Friday.
While Central Catholic trailed 14-8 after the first period, the Lady Eagles outscored Centerville 15-4 in the second quarter for a 23-18 advantage at halftime.
Central Catholic led 29-24 after three quarters.
Lydia Rivas led Central Catholic with 18 points.
Central Catholic (10-6 overall, 2-2 in district) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Highland Baptist in a 5 p.m. contest.
Vandebilt Catholic
upsets Morgan City
Vandebilt Catholic upset Morgan City, 34-28, in District 7-4A action in Houma Friday.
Vandebilt Catholic led 11-8 after the first quarter, 21-18 at the half and 30-22 after three quarters.
No individual stats were available for Morgan City.
The Lady Tigers (4-8, 0-1) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Assumption in a 6 p.m. District 7-4A contest.
Erath cruises
past Berwick
The Erath Lady Bobcats cruised past Berwick High, 54-21, in District 8-3A action in Berwick Friday.
Erath led 14-3 after a quarter, 31-5 at the half and 46-15 after three quarters.
Jordan Lipari led Berwick with eight points.
Other scorers included Madison Carline, seven; Mary Jordan Melancon, three; and Sydney Aucoin, two.
