Jones has record-breaking day at Catholic Relays

Berwick High School’s Kenan Jones started his sophomore track and field season in record-breaking fashion Friday at E.D. White’s Catholic Relay Friday as he broke a 30-year-old Berwick High record in the triple jump and a 20-year-old Catholic Relay mark in the high jump.
Jones, who finished third at state a year ago with a leap of 44 feet, 6 inches, opened the year with a leap of 45 feet, 2 inches. That broke a 1976 mark of 45 feet, 1½ inches set by Reuben Favors.
Additionally, Jones leaped 6 feet, 6 inches in the high jump, breaking the meet record of 6 feet, 4 inches set in 1996.
As a team, Berwick finished second in boys action with 127 points, while another local competitor, Central Catholic, finished sixth with 36 points.
E.D. White won the meet with 202 points.
On the girls side, Berwick finished sixth with 21 points, while Central Catholic didn’t score any points.
Vandebilt Catholic won the girls’ portion of the meet with 179.66 points.
