Lady Tigers roll past Ellender

The Morgan City High School soccer teams swept Ellender on the road in district play Friday, including an impressive 11-0 win by the girls’ squad.
The boys’ squad won 4-2 as both teams improved to 2-0 in Division 2, District 2 play.
In the girls game, four different Lady Tigers netted goals, including a hat trick by Celest Williams, who finished the contest with six goals.
Williams scored the game’s first goal in the fifth minute after receiving a pass from Sarah Patterson, while Williams scored two minutes later and again in the 12th minute after receiving another pass from Patterson.
Patterson scored in the 18th minute following a pass from Hannah Toups, while in the 24th minute, Williams connected on a pass to Shawn Guillot, who knocked it into the goal. Williams scored two more goals — in the 30th minute following a pass from Hannah Falgout and in the 35th minute, she scored following an Ellender defensive error.
In the second half, coach Trevor Patterson said his squad “kept up the pressure but worked on our passing and crossing.”
It took the Lady Tigers little time to score again as Williams passed to Guillot for a goal, her second of the evening, just two minutes into the half, while Patterson netted her second goal in the 50th minute after following a pass from Williams.
The Lady Tigers (9-8 overall, 2-0 in district) added goals in the 60th minute via a Williams’ goal following a pass from Toups and in the 75th minute after Patterson passed to Adrianne Doblack, who scored her first goal.
In the boys’ contest, Ellender struck first before the Tigers responded in the 10th minute with Miguel Perez’s goal.
Ellender would retake the lead at 2-1 where it remained at halftime.
In the second half, Morgan City responded with a goal by Daniel Alvarado in the first minute, while Alvarado connected with Sergize Flores who subsequently knocked the ball in the net in the 51st minute for Morgan City’s first lead of the ballgame, 3-2.
The Tigers (7-4-2 overall, 2-0 in district) scored their final goal in the 71st minute when Wilmer Lopez headed a ball into the net after receiving a cross by Delgado.
The Tigers and Lady Tigers return to action Tuesday at home against E.D. White, who is ranked No. 9 in boys’ soccer in Division 3, while its girls’ team is ranked No. 8. Boys’ action will begin at 5 p.m. and girls’ action will follow at 7 p.m.
