Local volleyball teams win Monday

MORGAN CITY — The Morgan City Lady Tigers defeated Hahnville 3-2 (25-18, 25-19, 23-25, 14-25, 15-8) in nondistrict action Monday.

Jaiveianna Jones led the Lady Tigers with 21 kills, two blocks, a block assist, one assist and three digs, while Taylor Prince had seven aces, three kills, one block, four assists and eight digs.

The Lady Tigers finished with 11 aces in the contest.

Other top contributors included Kloé Liner, seven kills, four blocks and 12 digs; Marilynn Bailey, two aces, three kills, two assists and 11 digs; Layne Reynaud, one ace, three kills, 28 assists and six digs; Brandi Ingram, seven kills, one block, a block assist and one dig; and Savannah Loupe, one ace, one assist and 12 digs.

In junior varsity action, Morgan City fell 25-23, 21-25, 11-15.

The Lady Tigers recorded 12 aces in the contest, led by four from Alex Thompson. She also added one kill, one block and three digs.

Other top contributors included Cecily Feliciano, four kills, two assists and three digs; Karley Guidry, three aces, five assists and three digs; Dwanna LeBeau, one ace, two kills, one block and six digs; Brandi Albarado, two aces, one kill and two digs; Sara Gaudet, seven digs; and Paige Loftin, two aces and two digs.

In freshmen action, the Lady Tigers fell 19-25, 12-25.

Morgan City (5-11) will open Division 6, District 3 play today when it hosts Patterson. Junior varsity action will begin at 4 p.m., with varsity action to follow.

Central Catholic

defeats Belle Chasse

The Central Catholic Lady Eagles knocked off Belle Chasse, 3-1 (25-6, 25-8, 24-26, 25-16) at home Monday.

Meo Knight led the Lady Eagles with 17 kills and four aces, while Gee Garrett had 11 kills.

Other top contributors included Olivia Crawford, 13 digs; Megan Landry, 11 digs; Brittany Longman, four aces; Elizabeth Garber, 18 assists; and Kaitlyn Gros, 15 assists.

Central Catholic (11-7) will return to action today in a Division 5 showdown when it travels to play Ascension Episcopal. In the most recent unofficial power rankings released by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association a week ago, Ascension Episcopal is ranked second in Division 5, while Central Catholic is ranked No. 5.

Today’s action will begin with junior varsity play at 4 p.m. and varsity action to follow at 5 p.m.

Patterson defeats

Highland Baptist

The Patterson Lumberjills picked up a 3-0 (28-26, 25-8, 25-19) win against Highland Baptist in New Iberia Monday.

The Lumberjills recorded 20 aces in the contest, led by 11 from Kailyn Johnson. Johnson also added 16 assists, two digs and 15 points, while Arian Grogan had six aces, two kills, one dig, one block, two assists and 13 points.

Other top contributors included Nyria Robinson, seven kills and two blocks; Gaylen Grogan, two aces, four points, four kills, five digs and a block; Tamia Washington, six kills and five points; Katelyn Thibodaux, 12 digs; and Rachel Easley, one ace, two kills, one dig and seven points.

Patterson (5-7) will return to action today when it opens Division 6, District 3 play at Morgan City.
