St. James quarterback and LSU commit Lowell Narcisse led the Wildcats past Patterson, 21-7, in first-team scrimmage action at St. James Thursday.
Narcisse, the 75th-ranked overall player in the Class of 2017 and the country’s fifth-best dual-threat quarterback — all according to Rivals.com — had a hand in each of the Wildcats’ first-team scores.
Including first-team and action by backups, St. James outscored Patterson, 35-14.
“Very, very quality opponent, which that’s what you want this time of the year, but I thought once we settled down and started playing, we (were) able to hold our own against them,” first-year Patterson Coach Marvin Dantzler said today.
“We (were) able to run the ball against them, and we grew up as the scrimmage got longer and longer,” Dantzler added. “Overall, it wasn’t bad. It’s just I thought we couldn’t get off the field earlier in the scrimmage, but I think it was more nerves than anything.”
The scrimmage was set up like a regular game, but special teams weren’t live. Dantzler said teams went through 115 plays, which lasted about three quarters.
In first-team action, Narcisse threw for two touchdowns and ran for another. Patterson was able to stop him after that and followed with a touchdown on offense.
“The first touchdown, he throws a 35-yard touchdown,” Dantzler said of Narcisse. “We got a linebacker hanging on him, and he throws it like it was nothing. … Very, very impressive athlete.”
Patterson’s lone first-team touchdown came when quarterback Dillan Giandelone connected with Khyri Harris.
Patterson will return to action Aug. 26 when it participates in Morgan City High School’s Jamboree. Patterson will play Berwick and Morgan City in 15-minute scrimmages.
