Lumberjacks finish weekend 2-0 at their tournament

The Patterson Lumberjacks finished 2-0 this weekend in its tournament, while the Tri-City area’s other three hoops teams each finished 1-1 at the tournament. Patterson knocked off Jeanerette Friday, 58-41, and Lafayette High Saturday, 52-50.
No individual stats were submitted for either game.
Patterson (4-3) will return to action Wednesday when it travels to face Bunkie in a 6 p.m. contest.
Meanwhile, Morgan City, Berwick and Central Catholic each finished 1-1 at Patterson’s tournament. Morgan City fell to Berwick, 66-64, Friday but rebounded with an 89-29 rout of Central Catholic Saturday. While Berwick beat Morgan City, it fell to St. Martinville, 48-44. Central Catholic defeated St. Martinville, 46-43, but fell to Morgan City.
In Morgan City’s loss to Berwick, Morgan City fell just short of a comeback despite a huge fourth quarter in which the Tigers outscored Berwick, 33-23. Morgan City entered the fourth quarter trailing 43-31.
Berwick took a 16-12 lead after a period of play and led 31-22 at halftime.
Larenz Clark and Donald Tillman led Berwick with 18 points apiece. Other scorers included Travis Whitehead, 10; Josh Carver, nine; Tysin Meads, seven; and Cody Roberie, four.
Makye Richard led Morgan City with 17 points, while Tywaun Walker added 16 points. Other scorers included Morrquise Charles, seven; Jared Singleton and Devonta Grogan, six points each; Deondre Grogan, four; Ke’sean Francois, Taaj Daniels and Rommell Williams, two points each; and Kerwin Francois and DeAndre Long, one each.
In Saturday’s win against Central Catholic, Morgan City raced out to a 25-7 lead after a quarter, led 52-12 at halftime and 72-24 after three quarters.
Walker led Morgan City with 24 points. Other scorers included Richard, 12 points; Ke’Sean Francois, 11; Daniels, 10; Charles, eight; Long and Williams, six points apiece; Kerwin Francois, four; Devonta Grogan, three; and Singleton and Deondre Grogan, two points apiece.
Elijah Swan led Central Catholic with 13 points, while Samarick Paul had 10. Other scorers included Ethan Boagni, three; and Taylor Blanchard and Jalen Johnson, two points apiece.
No stats were submitted from Central Catholic’s contest against St. Martinville and Berwick’s game against St. Martinville.
Central Catholic (3-2) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Central Lafourche in a 7 p.m. contest.
Berwick (8-6) will hit the court again Tuesday when it travels to face Jeanerette in a 5 p.m. contest.
Morgan City (9-4) won’t play again until Dec. 28 when it hosts West St. Mary in a 6 p.m. contest.
Berwick girls go 1-1
this weekend
The Berwick Lady Panthers defeated Westgate and fell to Hanson Memorial at Hanson’s tournament this weekend.
Friday, Berwick fell to Hanson, 39-16, before closing the tournament Saturday with a 34-28 win against Westgate.
Thursday, Berwick dropped its District 8-3A opener to E.D. White, 51-33, at home.
No individual stats were submitted from any of these games.
Berwick (2-10 overall, 0-1 in district) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face North Vermilion in district play in a 6 p.m. contest.
CCHS girls fall
to Vandebilt Catholic
The Central Catholic Lady Eagles fell to Vandebilt Catholic, 33-32, on the road Friday.
Yani Johnson led Central Catholic with 15 points, while Hallie Autin added 11.
Central Catholic (6-5) will return to action Wednesday when it opens District 7-1A play at home against Ascension Episcopal.

drops district opener
The Patterson Lumberjills dropped their District 8-3A opener at North Vermilion, 54-28, Friday.
No individual statistics were submitted.
Patterson (3-4, 0-1) will continue District 8-3A action Tuesday when it travels to face Franklin in a 6 p.m. contest.
