MCHS girls soccer travels to North DeSoto Friday
The Morgan City Lady Tigers will make the four-plus hour road trip to north Louisiana to face North DeSoto in Division III first-round playoff action Friday.
Morgan City finished the regular season with a 6-15-2 overall mark and a 2-6 record in District 6-III play, good enough for fourth place.
The Lady Tigers enter the postseason as the No. 23 seed and have lost four straight.
Morgan City coach Trevor Patterson said the girls have endured a “rough season” plagued by “personal life” and the flu.
“It seems like their social life and boyfriends seem to be more important than soccer this year,” Patterson said.
“It has been a rough season because a lot of the girls get aggravated and it has shown, and it may be my fault being a lenient coach, but this is the first year I’ve ever had that happen to me,” he said.
Patterson said there were several games if players weren’t missing due to social life or illness, they may have either won or tied their opponents and been ranked higher than No. 23.
Morgan City’s first-round opponent, No. 10 North DeSoto, enters the postseason with a 14-9-1 mark, including a 5-1 record in District 1-III play, good enough for second place.
They have a three-game winning streak entering the playoffs.
Morgan City is familiar with North DeSoto as the girls team played there two years ago. Patterson said North DeSoto has an “unreal” facility.
“It almost looks like LSU, really,” he said.
He said also is helped because their middle school is next door, and they have a soccer program, too.
“They got players that are playing year round and from a young age,” he said.
While the teams may be far apart in power rankings, Patterson doesn’t expect a contest today like one maybe if they were playing Vandebilt Catholic or E.D. White. While he said he respects North DeSoto, he said that after the top five teams in the power rankings, there isn’t as big of a gap between the remainder of the teams ranked.
