MCHS Lady Tigers rally to beat Assumption, 49-44

The Morgan City Lady Tigers rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat Assumption, 49-44, in District 7-4A basketball action in Morgan City Friday.
Trailing 36-31 after three quarters, Morgan City outscored Assumption 18-8 in the final period.
Morgan City took the lead for good with about 3:15 remaining.
The Lady Tigers started the game with a 16-8 scoring advantage in the first quarter, but Assumption came back with a 17-5 scoring edge in the second quarter for a 25-21 halftime lead.
Alisha Singleton led Morgan City with 17 points, while Hailey Lewis also reached double figures with 11 points. Other Morgan City scorers included Sh’Diamond Holly, eight; Twanna LeBeau, six; Nia Lightoot, four; Courtney Welsh, two; and Deryon Johnson, one.
Morgan City (8-8 overall, 2-4 in district) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face South Lafourche in district action. South Lafourche is ranked No. 3 in the latest Class 4A Louisiana High School Athletic Association power rankings, while Morgan City is ranked No. 21.
Berwick defeats
Franklin
The Berwick Lady Panthers upset the Franklin Lady Hornets, 40-35, in District 8-3A action in Franklin Friday.
Berwick entered the contest ranked No. 46 in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A power rankings, while Franklin was ranked No. 29.
Berwick led 10-5 after a quarter, 18-14 at halftime and 28-19 after three quarters.
Madison Carline led Berwick with 19 points. Other Berwick scorers included Jordan Lipari, nine; Mary Jordan Melancon, seven; Tia Whitehead and Nicole Johnson, two each; and Sydney Aucoin, one.
Berwick (4-17, 2-6) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Erath in District 8-3A action. The game will begin at 5:30 p.m.
CCHS falls at LCA
Central Catholic’s bid for an upset against Division IV’s No. 3-ranked squad fell short as the Lady Eagles fell, 37-27, at Lafayette Christian in District 7-1A action Friday.
The game was tied at 27 with a 1:30 remaining, but Lafayette Christian pulled away.
Yani Johnson led Central Catholic, ranked No. 11 in Division IV, with 10 points, while Taylor Picou added seven.
Central Catholic (10-11, 4-6) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Centerville in district action.
