MCHS records consecutive upsets to advance to state semifinals

The Morgan City Lady Tigers played the spoiler role at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s western Bi-Regional Monday at Lafayette Lanes in Lafayette, recording two upsets to advance to the state bowling Final Four on April 8.
No. 5 Morgan City, who along with its opponent, No. 4 Central Lafourche, received a first-round bye, met at 1 p.m. with Morgan City rallying for a 16-11 victory.
Then, Morgan City met Parkway, the No. 1 seed in the state’s western bi-regional and defeated them, 15½-11½.
Morgan City (14-1) now will advance to play an opponent to be determined today when the state’s eastern Bi-Regional is held at All-Star Lanes in Baton Rouge.
The semifinals will be held April 8, at 11 a.m. at All-Star Lanes, followed by the finals at 1 p.m.
Morgan City’s semifinal opponent will be either St. Scholastica, East Ascension, St. Michael the Archangel or Academy of Our Lady.
In Morgan City’s match up with Parkway, Morgan City rallies from a 9½-6½ deficit after two games to take the win.
In the third game, Morgan City got wins from Mackenzie Amador (149), Ali Tregle (178), Marissa Davis (151) and Meghan Amador (173).
The Lady Tigers also picked up two points for winning the pin count in the game and three more for winning the pin count in the match (2,730-2,600).
Tregle led Morgan City with a 515 series (170, 167, 178). Other top bowlers included Meghan Amador 495 series (190, 173), Hannah Pipes 490 series (170, 175) and Marissa Davis 463 series (154, 158, 151).
The rally against Parkway came after a similar rally against Central Lafourche for a 16-11 victory.
Trailing 9-7 after two games, Morgan City got victories in Game 3 from Alyssa Rich (136), Laura Nolazco (141), Mackenzie Amador (146) and Davis (148).
Morgan City knocked down more pins in Game 3 than Central Lafourche for two additional points, while the Lady Tigers knocked down more total pins in the match (2,741-2,719) for three more points.
Meghan Amador led Morgan City with a 529 series (182, 158, 189). Other top bowlers included Hannah Pipes 519 series (157, 194, 168) and Mackenzie Amador 482 series (168, 168).
Parkway edges Berwick boys
The Berwick boys’ bowling team’s rally came just short as the No. 12 Panthers fell to No. 5 Parkway, 16-11, in a game that came down to total pins in first-round Bi-Regional action Monday.
Berwick, which trailed 10-6 heading into Game 3, scored five points in the final game (victories in three of the six possible games and another two for total pins in the game).
However, when total pins were factored in, Parkway knocked down 13 more than Berwick to secure the three bonus points and escape with the victory.
In Game 3, Berwick got wins from Lucas Landry (201), Abram Gilder (215) and Mark Lemoine (201).
Mark Lemoine led Berwick with a 618 series (202, 215, 201). Other top bowlers included Abram Gilder 594 series (179, 200, 215), Aaron Barrilleaux 582 series (183, 210, 189), Brandon Lemoine 497 series (163, 175) and Landry (201).
While Berwick was eliminated as a team, Mark Lemoine, Gilder and Barrilleaux advanced to singles’ competition at 1 p.m.
In that round of singles’ play, Barrilleaux recorded a 229 average (224, 235), while Mark Lemoine recorded a 189 average (197, 182) and Gilder, a 150 average (136, 164).
Mark Lemoine and Barrilleaux advanced to the final round of singles’ play at 3:30 p.m. but both could not qualify for the state semifinals in singles. Barrilleaux recorded a 172 average (171, 174), while Mark Lemoine bowled a 160 average (153, 168).
Central Catholic’s Josh Abney and Morgan City’s Jayson Hidalgo also participated in bi-regional action in singles’ action. Abney advanced to the second round where he was eliminated. His high game during the competition was 225. No information was available on Hidalgo.
