MCHS tennis team competes at state

Morgan City High School had four members of its tennis team in action at the Division II state meet including a singles’ competitor who advanced to the quarterfinals.
Harleigh Price led the way for the squad, falling in the quarterfinals, to Ciera White from Haughton, 1-6, 0-6. White advanced to the state finals where she fell to eventual state champion Whitney Hamilton of St. Michael the Archangel.
She began play with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Hillary Fisher from Opelousas High and followed it up with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Emilie Vidrine from St. Michael the Archangel in the second round.
In other singles’ action, Morgan City’s Niki Ring won 6-3, 6-0 in the first round against Britney Young from Teurlings Catholic before falling to the regional champion, Gianna St. Julian of Ben Franklin, 2-6, 0-6, in the second round. St. Julian advanced to the semifinals before falling to Hamilton.
In doubles’ action, Morgan City’s team of Bailee Hoggatt and Krystina Pitre won their first-round match against a team from Assumption, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. The win allowed them to avenge a loss to the same duo in regionals.
However, in their second-round match, Hoggatt and Pitre fell to a team from St. Scholastica, 0-6, 6-3, 2-6.
“The ladies played very hard and gave it their all,” Morgan City tennis coach Kelly Jo Aucoin said. “They represented MCHS in a first-class way. I am very proud of the Lady Tigers. They have no reason to hang their heads.”
As a team, Morgan City finished tied for ninth with St. Scholastica with four points. St. Michael the Archangel won the Division II title with 15 points.
