MCHS Tigers top South Lafourche in OT

Morgan City High School survived South Lafourche in overtime, 64-54, in District 7-4A boys’ basketball action in Morgan City.
While Morgan City led 39-25 heading into the final quarter, South Lafourche outscored the Tigers 26-12 in the final period to force overtime.
However, Morgan City turned the tables in the overtime period, outscoring South Lafourche, 13-3.
Morgan City led 12-9 after a quarter and 28-20 at the half.
Tywan Walker led Morgan City with 15 points, while Jared Singleton had 14 and Lloyd Singleton, 10.
Other Morgan City scorers included Makye Richard, eight; Ke’sean Francois and Abram Hartley, six points apiece; Taaj Daniels, four; and Deondre Long, two.
Morgan City (14-12 overall, 3-3 in District 7-4A) will return to action Thursday when it travels to face Ellender. Morgan City will meet Ellender at approximately 7 p.m., following the girls’ 6 p.m. contest.
Central Catholic defeated Centerville, 64-51, in District 7-1A high school boys’ basketball action in Morgan City Tuesday.
Central Catholic outscored Centerville in every quarter except the fourth, taking a 13-8 lead after a period of play, a 31-15 lead at the half and a 48-28 advantage after three quarters.
Jalen Johnson led four Eagles in double figures with 22 points.
Others scorers included Elijah Swan, 15; Tanner Wiggins, 13; Blake Byrne, 11; and Brooks Thomas, three.
Central Catholic (7-12 overall, 5-4 in district) will return to action Friday when it continues District 7-1A action at Highland Baptist.
Berwick holds off Erath
The Berwick Panthers survived a furious fourth-quarter rally by Erath to hold on for a 44-42 victory in District 8-3A action on the road Tuesday.
While Berwick led 33-23 heading into the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s contest, Erath came back with a 19-11 advantage in the fourth quarter for the close finish.
Berwick jumped out to a 16-4 lead after a quarter, but Erath came back in the second period with a 12-4 scoring advantage. Berwick went into halftime with a 20-16 lead.
Audwin Williams led Berwick with 15 points.
Other scorers for the Panthers included Larenz Clark and Tysin Meads, nine points each; Donald Tillman, five; and Cody Roberie and Collin Louviere, three points apiece.
Berwick (16-11, 5-3) will continue District 8-3A action Friday when it hosts Patterson.
