MCHS tops Patterson in district action

Morgan City High School defeated Patterson High School 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-15) in District 6-III action Thursday.
Senior Nyria Robinson led Patterson with three points, four kills and 10 digs, while junior Arian Grogan had one ace and six kills.
Other top contributors included junior Tamia Washington, four aces, seven points and one dig; senior Jazmin Evans, two points, one kill and nine digs; junior Gaylen Grogan, one point, four kills and one block; and junior Nia Broussard, four points, one dig and seven assists.
No individual statistics were available for Morgan City.
Patterson (9-8 overall, 1-5 in district) and Morgan City (10-13, 3-3) will return to action Saturday when they participate in New Iberia’s tournament.
CCHS upsets
West St. John
The Central Catholic Lady Eagles improved to 3-0 in District 6-V play with an upset win in straight sets against West St. John in Edgard.
Central Catholic entered the game ranked No. 15 in the latest unofficial Division V power rankings, while West St. John is ranked No. 7.
No score or stats were available.
On Wednesday, Central Catholic fell to Assumption 3-0 (23-25, 17-25, 11-25).
The loss, against Division II’s second ranked squad, according to the latest unofficial Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s power rankings, snapped a five game winning streak for the Lady Eagles.
Freshman Quincee Wiggins had seven kills and six digs, while senior Kaitlyn Gros had 11 assists for Central Catholic.
Other top contributors included sophomore Emma Aucoin, eight digs; senior Brittany Longman, six digs; and seventh-grader Katie Hoffpauir, two aces.
Central Catholic (12-16, 3-0) will return to action Saturday when it participates in Terrebonne’s tournament.
Berwick defeats
Donaldsonville
Berwick defeated Donaldsonville 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-6) in District 6-III action in Donaldsonville Thursday.
Mary Jordan Melancon led Berwick with 12 kills, three assists and three digs.
Other top contributors included Abigail Askew, five kills and one dig; Hannah Carpenter, one kill and 11 digs; Jordan Lipari, three kills, four assists and two digs; Ashton Morales, three aces, one assist and three digs; and Rennen DeLatte, one ace and five digs.
In junior varsity action, Berwick won 2-0 (25-15, 28-26).
Freshman Hannah Henry led Berwick with two aces, one kill, two assists and one dig, while sophomore Emma Hover had one ace and 11 digs.
Other top contributors included sophomore Jaci Arnold, two aces and three kills; sophomore Madalyn Gros, two aces and one dig; and freshman Maci Wiggins, two kills and one dig.
Berwick (14-12, 4-2) will return to action Saturday when it participates in Terrebonne’s tournament at H.L. Bourgeois. Berwick will play South Lafourche at 8:30 a.m., Lafayette Christian at 10:30 a.m., Archbishop Hannan at 1:30 p.m. and Brusly at 3:30 p.m.
