Patterson edges CCHS, 34-32

Patterson High School held off a huge fourth quarter rally by Central Catholic for a 34-32 win in both teams’ season opener.
Trailing 26-16 after three quarters, Central Catholic outscored Patterson, 16-8 in the final period.
While Hallie Autin got a steal and layup with 1:02 remaining to give Central Catholic a 32-30 lead, Kemprielle Williams made both free throws on Patterson’s ensuing possession with 53.2 second remaining to knot the game at 32.
Erykah Singleton scored the game-winning basket for Patterson with about 25 second left after getting a rebound.
While Central Catholic led 8-3 after a quarter, Patterson countered with a 14-3 scoring advantage in the second period for a 17-11 halftime lead.
Patterson outscored Central Catholic 9-5 in the third quarter to extend its lead to 26-16 after three periods.
Singleton, Makayla Ruiz and Williams each had 10 points to lead Patterson. Other scorers included Nyla Holder and Kamiah Watson with two each.
Autin led Central Catholic with 12 points. Other scorers included Yani Johnson, nine; Sydney Williams, four; Taylor Picou, three; Jalaysia Bertrand, two; and Lexi Landry, one.
Central Catholic (0-1) will return to action Wednesday when it travels to face Catholic High-New Iberia in a 6 p.m. contest.
Patterson (1-0) won’t return to action until Nov. 29 when it travels to face Centerville in a 6 p.m. contest.
Morgan City defeats
Central Lafourche
Morgan City defeated Central Lafourche, 49-32, in Morgan City Thursday in girls basketball action.
Morgan City outscored Central Lafourche in every quarter except the fourth, taking a 16-9 lead after a period of play, a 30-13 lead at halftime and a 41-15 lead after three quarters. Central Lafourche outscored Morgan City, 17-8, in the fourth for the final score.
Laqwaijha Bourgeois led Morgan City with 14 points. Other scorers included Sh’Diamond Holly, nine; Alisha Singleton, seven; Courtney Welsh and Jamia Francois, five points each; Hailey Lewis, Indeara Chenevert and Deryon Johnson, two points apiece; and Ta’Janaye Hawkins, one.
Morgan City (2-0) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Thibodaux in a 6 p.m. contest.
