Patterson to host Green Oaks today

The Patterson Lumberjacks will welcome Green Oaks for a second-round Class 3A playoff game at 6 p.m. today at Patterson.
The Lumberjacks, Class 3A’s No. 5 seed, advanced to the second round after knocking off No. 28 seed Lutcher via a last-second three-pointer from senior standout Nehemiah Augustus.
Patterson head coach Ryan Taylor said he knew Lutcher was not a typical 28 seed, but he also agreed the close win puts into perspective that the postseason is not a time where anything can be taken lightly.
“We knew going in that the game against Lutcher wasn’t going to be the typical first round high seed vs. low seed game just because they’re not your typical 28 seed,” Taylor said Monday. “They (are) way better than that. They were just a victim of teams on their schedule not winning many games and one team on their schedule having to forfeit a ton of games, but … it shows how important each game, each possession is. The playoffs isn’t a time where you can relax. There is no make up for it the next game. If you don’t get the job done, the season’s over.”
Green Oaks, the No. 12 seed, advanced to the second round after knocking off No. 21 Bogalusa, 69-38, in other first-round action.
Taylor said Green Oaks (19-8), the District 1-3A champion with an 8-0 mark, is an athletic squad who has some shooters.
“They (are) gonna try to get up and down the court,” Taylor said. “We’re going to have to do a good job of knowing where those shooters (are). Just like with Lutcher, they’re going to try to find ’em. They’re going to try to get the ball to ’em and get those guys as many shots as they can.”
While Taylor said Green Oaks’ up-tempo pace is something the Lumberjacks can play, he said he doesn’t want his squad to get to the point where they’re bordering on playing out of control.
“We want to be sure we stay under control, stay within ourselves and take what’s given to us and just let the game flow for us,” he said.
The Lumberjacks (22-4), who have won 14 straight, also will be playing tonight’s game in front of their home crowd.
“People get involved in the game,” Taylor said. “They get loud. The kids feed off of it. It’s something they earned. It’s definitely huge for us, and we hope it all comes into play in the second round as well.”
