Patterson High School’s Shay Ragas and Sirbatian Charles capped their high school football careers by participating in the Louisiana High School Coaches Association/Louisiana Football Coaches Association All-Star Football game Saturday at Louisiana Leadership’s Doug Williams Stadium in Baton Rouge.
Ragas, a defensive back, and Charles, a quarterback, participated as members of the West team that fell 35-25 to the East squad.
The duo was the only representatives from St. Mary Parish on the squad as well as the only representatives from their football district, 8-3A.
“It’s a great honor for those two guys,” Chad Blanchard, who their high school coach at Patterson who attended the game, said. “It was good to see them finish up their high school careers by playing in an all-star game. Both of them said they really enjoyed it. It was a fun week. They got to experience working with some different guys, playing with some different guys, working with some different coaches and it’s a testament to what kind of kids they are and how successful they’ve been. It’s a good honor for them.”
Charles wrapped up his senior season as the District 8-3A Most Valuable Player as a senior and a Class 3A honorable mention All-State selection recently by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
He completed 134 of 210 passes (63.8 percent) for 2,052 yards with 27 touchdowns and five interceptions.
He also rushed 129 times for 669 yards and five touchdowns.
Ragas, second-team All-District 8-3A selection, had 18 tackles, five pass breakups and one interception through 11 games this season.
