Six Tri-City area players earn Louisiana Football Coaches Association All-State honors

Six Tri-City area athletes — three in Class 3A and three more in Class 1A — were honored as all-state selections by the Louisiana Football Coaches Association.
In Class 3A, Patterson High School’s Nehemiah Augustus was a first-team selection at defensive back.
Augustus had 88 total tackles — 52 solo and 36 assists. He had five tackles for a loss of nine yards, including two sacks. He forced two fumbles, broke up 11 passes, intercepted six passes and had one defensive touchdown.
Augustus’ teammate, Charlie Kelly, was a second-team selection on the defensive line, while Berwick High School wide receiver Audwin Williams was a second-team selection on offense.
Kelly had 87 total tackles — 52 solo and 35 assists, six tackles for a loss of eight yards, one forced fumble and one pass breakup.
Williams caught 48 passes for 958 yards and 10 touchdowns this season.
In Class 1A, Central Catholic’s Stefano Guarisco and Thomas Garber were first-team selections. Guarisco made the squad at running back, while Garber was an offensive lineman.
Guarisco finished his senior season with 299 carries for a school-record 2,728 yards and 39 touchdowns.
Garber helped pave the way for a Central Catholic offense that rushed for 3,652 yards this season.
Central Catholic’s Jalen Johnson was a second-team defensive back.
Johnson recorded 68 tackles and four interceptions in 2015.
Other selections from Central Catholic’s district, 7-1A, included: Vermilion Catholic wide receiver Tyler Derouen (first team), Vermilion Catholic return specialist Emile Trahan (first team), Ascension Episcopal wide receiver Ronald LeBlanc (second team), Vermilion Catholic quarterback Hunter Frith (second team) and Ascension Episcopal defensive lineman Peyton Adams (second team).
Other selections from Patterson’s district, 9-3A, included Erath running back Elijah Mitchell (second team).
