South Lafourche sweeps MCHS hoops teams

The Morgan City Tigers fell to South Lafourche, 46-43, in Morgan City Friday.
The upset loss was the first for the Tigers in District 7-4A action this season.
Morgan City entered the game ranked No. 19 in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 4A power rankings, while South Lafourche was ranked No. 28.
While Morgan City led 11-7 after a quarter, South Lafourche outscored the home team 19-8 in the second period for a 26-19 halftime advantage.
Morgan City outscored South Lafourche in the third quarter, 11-9, but still trailed 35-30 after three quarters.
No individual statistics for Morgan City were submitted.
Morgan City (12-5 overall, 2-0 in district) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Ellender in a 7 p.m. contest.
Patterson tops
E.D. White
The Patterson Lumberjacks remained perfect in District 8-3A action Friday with a 46-37 victory at Berwick Friday.
The game originally was scheduled to be played at Patterson High but the change of venue was necessary due to game clock problems at Patterson.
Patterson outscored E.D. White 14-9 in the first period and extended its lead to 20-12 at halftime.
While the Cardinals cut their deficit to 31-26 after three quarters, Patterson outscored them 15-11 in the fourth quarter for the final margin.
Jordan Butler led Patterson with 15 points. Other scorers included John Brooks, seven; Dajon Richard and Drew Lucas, six points apiece; Tyric Garrett, four; and James Butler, Elijah Williams, Khyri Harris and Kamiah Jones, two points apiece.
Patterson (8-7, 3-0 in district) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Erath in District 8-3A action.
Berwick beats Kaplan
Berwick bounced back from its first District 8-3A set of the season with a 52-43 win at Kaplan in league play Friday.
While Berwick trailed 13-11 after a quarter, the Panthers outscored Kaplan, 17-10, in the second period for a 28-23 halftime lead.
Berwick extended its lead to 44-30 after three quarters.
Larenz Clark led three Panthers in double figures with 11 points. Other scorers included Tysin Meads and Travis Whitehead with 10 points apiece; Josh Carver and Donald Tillman with nine each; Patrick Robertson, two; and Dayton Clark, one.
Berwick (14-9, 3-1) will return to action Friday when it travels to face E.D. White in district play. Varsity action is set for a 7:30 p.m. start.
CCHS falls to
Vermilion Catholic
Vermilion Catholic upset Central Catholic, 52-47, in Abbeville Friday in District 7-1A action.
Central Catholic entered the game ranked No. 5 in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division IV power rankings, while Vermilion Catholic was seeded at No. 13.
No individual Central Catholic stats were submitted.
Central Catholic (6-7, 2-2) will return to action Monday when it travels to face Hanson Memorial in District 7-1A action. Varsity boys play is set to begin at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Vermilion Catholic
The Central Catholic Lady Eagles fell to Vermilion Catholic, 59-23, in District 7-1A girls’ basketball action in Abbeville Friday.
Vermilion Catholic entered the game ranked No. 2 in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division IV power rankings, while Central Catholic is ranked No. 11.
Aaliyah Poole led Central Catholic with 11 points, while Yani Johnson scored six.
Central Catholic (11-8, 3-3) will return to action Monday when it travels to face Hanson Memorial in a 6:30 p.m. contest.
Morgan City falls
to South Lafourche
The Morgan City Lady Tigers fell to South Lafourche, 60-37, in District 7-4A action in Morgan City Friday.

South Lafourche entered Friday’s game ranked No. 3 in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 4A power rankings, while Morgan City is ranked No. 16.
Morgan City (5-6, 0-2) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Ellender in a 6 p.m. contest.
Patterson falls
to E.D. White
The Patterson Lumberjills fell to E.D. White at Berwick Friday, 62-20.
E.D. White led 19-5 after a quarter, 37-8 at halftime and 52-8 after three quarters.
No individual Patterson statistics were submitted.
E.D. White came into Friday’s contest ranked No. 5 in Division II, while Patterson is ranked No. 29 in Class 3A.
The Lumberjills (3-9, 0-5) will return to action Tuesday when they travel to take on Erath.
