Tarpons clip Tigers in OT

The Morgan City High School Tigers fell 53-52 to South Lafourche in overtime at Morgan City’s Tiger Classic Tuesday.
While Morgan City led after the first three quarters, South Lafourche tied the game late via the free throw line to force overtime.
In the extra period, the Tarpons got the period’s lone point late when Seth Borne, who finished the game with nine points, knocked down a shot.
Morgan City could not respond and lost for the first time this season.
Morgan City led 13-10 after the first quarter and 27-25 at halftime.
The Tigers extended their lead to 38-32 after three quarters before South Lafourche outscored them 20-14 in the final period to force overtime with the score tied at 52-all.
Both teams struggled from the free throw line as Morgan City hit just 14 of 28 attempts and South Lafourche, 25-38.
Kobe Chouest led South Lafourche with 13 points, while Trevor Rebstock added nine.
Other scorers included Shakerrin Dillon, seven points; Harvey Allen, six; Thomas Rousse, five; Nikali Lombas, three; and John Rogers, two.
Makye Richard led Morgan City with 16 points.
Other scorers included Lloyd Singleton, nine; Brady Fryou and Jaylen Jones, eight points each; Tywaun Walker, four; Keshawn Marshall, three; and Deondre Walker and Ke’Sean Francois, two points each.
In other tournament action Tuesday, Jeanerette beat Franklin 80-70. No score was available from the West St. Mary-Central Lafourche contest.
Morgan City (3-1) will conclude its tournament with the nightcap against Franklin today, scheduled for about an 8 p.m. start.
South Lafourche will open the day’s action with a 5 p.m. contest against West St. Mary, while around 6:30 p.m., Central Lafourche will meet Jeanerette.
Berwick falls
at AES tourney
Berwick fell to Catholic High-New Iberia, 54-50, in the semifinals of Ascension Episcopal’s tournament Tuesday.
The teams were tied at 23 at halftime and Catholic High led 52-50 with 4.7 seconds remaining before getting a steal and converting a layup to clinch the win.
Audwin Williams and Kenan Jones each had 14 points, while Donald Tillman also reached double figures with 13 points.
Berwick (1-1) will play today at 6 p.m. against Erath in the third-place contest.
