Trio of Eagles earn coaches 1A All-State honors

Staff Report

A trio of Central Catholic Eagles earned Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association Class 1A All-State honors.
Central Catholic sophomore pitchers Greg Leger and Blake Hidalgo earned the honors as well as junior Samuel Guarisco as a utility selection.
Leger finished the season with a 7-1 mark, a 0.89 ERA and 81 strikeouts.
Hidalgo recorded a 7-0 mark with a 1.41 ERA and 53 strikeouts.
Guarisco batted .404 with five doubles, two triples, one home run, 23 RBIs, 28 runs and 12 stolen bases. He also was 5-0 on the mound with a 1.17 ERA.
Central Catholic finished its season with a 23-5 mark and advanced to the state tournament for the fourth straight year this spring before falling in the semifinals to St. Edmund.
State champion Ouachita Christian took two of three awards as junior Aaron George was named Pitcher of the Year, while John Park was named Coach of the Year.
Senior Connor Bates of state semifinalist Covenant Christian was Player of the Year.
Central Catholic’s district foes, Hanson Memorial and Vermilion Catholic, each had one selection. Hanson senior Cameron Stovall and Vermilion Catholic junior Emile Trahan each made the team as utility selections.
