The Belleview wins St. Mary Ryder Cup

After being defeated the last two years by St. Mary’s golf club, The Belleview golfers decided they had had enough and soundly defeated the cross parish club by a score of 28½ to 19½ points. The two day event was held this past weekend with Saturday’s 2-man team matches of 4-ball and alternating shot taking place in Berwick. The Belleview hosted Sunday’s 24 individual matches.
St. Mary’s held a slim one-point lead after Saturday’s matches with a 13½ to 12½ score. The day started out with the seniors taking it on the chin in the morning, losing all six of their 4-ball matches. However, the champions came back and won all six of their matches to make it a 6-all tie leading into the afternoon alternating shot matches. Once those matches concluded, it was St. Mary’s holding a slim one-point lead as the seniors earned 1½ points and the champions earned four points.
Teams that earned victories on the day in the morning’s 4-ball matches were: Garrett Burns and David Arboneaux; Robbie Senette and Brandon Burdett; Brad Rodriguez and Dale Rogers; Mike Kapp and Chase Arboneaux; Ty Burdett and Bret Senette and Bobby McDonald and Bryant Tibbs.
In the alternating shot format, the teams of Bob Senette and David Naquin, Ty and Brandon Burdett, Robbie Senette and David Arboneaux, Garrett Burns and Brad Rodriguez and Bobby McDonald and Bryant Tibbs all won their matches and earned points.
The Belleview played host on Sunday morning 24 individual matches with St. Mary’s holding the narrow one-point lead. The seniors of The Belleview wasted no time in rectifying Saturday’s play by soundly winning 8½ of the possible 12 points to give the home team a big lead which would not be relinquished as the champions also earned 8½ points to crush their opponents. Seniors who won matches were Bob Senette, Marshall Lee, Charles Judice, Junious Granger, Mickey Michel, Jules Hebert, Charlie Ibert and David Williams. David Naquin tied his match to earn a one-half point. Champions winning their matches were Bryant Tibbs, Brad Rodriguez, Dale Rogers, Garrett Burns, Brandon Burdett, Bobby McDonald, David Arboneaux and Robbie Senette. Ty Burdett tied his match to earn one-half of a point.
Team members for the seniors were: Bob Senette, David Naquin, Tom Hicks, Mickey Michel, Jules Hebert, Johnny Sanchez, Ralph Longman, Marshall Lee, Charles Judice, David Williamson, Herman Hebert, Junious Granger and Charlie Ibert.
Members of the champions division were: Booby McDonald, Ty Burdett, Robbie Senette, Garrett Burns, Brandon Burdett, Bret Senette, Bryant Tibbs, Brad Rodriguez, David Arboneaux, Chase Arboneaux, Brian Long, Mike Kapp and Dale Rogers.
A great time was held as members hung around for the trophy presentation and ate some great jambalaya prepared by Kelly Louviere.
