BHPA is represented at world championships
The Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association is represented by three competitors in the 2014 World Horseshoe Pitching Championships, which began Monday and continue until July 26 in Hamburg, N.Y.
Issac Chavalia of Houma and Al Dodson and Linda Dodson, both of Morgan City, are the area competitors.
Forty-eight portable horseshoe courts are set up at the Hamburg Fairgrounds and Event Center for the two-week event, with all games being recorded on an electronic scoring system.
This two-week event is held once each summer to crown a World Champion horseshoe pitcher in each of eight divisions — Open Men, Open Women, Senior Men, Senior Women, Elder (short-distance) Men, Junior Boys, Junior Girls and Junior Cadets (12-years old and under).
Entrants hail from the United States and six Canadian provinces — all vying for titles of World Champion.
In previous years, competitors have come from South Africa, Namibia, Japan and Norway.
