Gilmore wins doubles title
One member of the Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association was part of a title-winning team, while three others area horseshoe pitchers finished in the top three in their competition at the Louisiana State Doubles Horseshoe Pitching Championships Saturday.
Tim Gilmore of Bayou Vista, who teamed with Ron Latiolais of Gonzales, won the Class A title with a 5-0 mark and a ringer percentage of 53.3.
Finishing behind them in second was Al Dodson of Morgan City and Dudley Michel of Bayou Vista. The duo finished with a 3-2 mark and a 39.0 ringer percentage.
In Class B action, Ryan Fryou of Berwick and Charles Savoy of Jennings placed second. They combined for a 4-2 mark and a 27.5 ringer percentage.
They were knocked off by Mike Ricardo of Keighville and David Reed of Welsh in a 60-shoe playoff for the title.
Ricardo and Reed finished 5-1 with a 24.4 ringer percentage.
In Class A women's action, Angela Percle of Morgan City and Bobbie Richard of Church Point finished second after falling in a 60-shoe playoff to Pat Pertuit of Marrero and Sharla Fontenot of Lacassine. Percle/Richard finished with a 4-2 mark and a 44.7 ringer percentage, while Pertuit/Fontenot were 5-1 with a 45.7 ringer percentage.

Class A Doubles
First place, Tim Gilmore of Bayou Vista and Ron Latiolais of Gonzales, , 5-0, 53.3 ringer percentage; second place, Al Dodson of Morgan City and Dudley Michel of Bayou Vista, 3-2, 39.0; third place, Ricky Richard of Church Pointand Alois Habetz of Sulphur, 3-2, 35.7.
Gilmore/Latiolais claimed the Class A Mens’s title and was named Men’s Tournament Champions.
Class B Doubles
First, Mike Ricardo of Keithville and David Reed of Welsh, 5-1, 24.4; second, Ryan Fryou of Berwick and Charles Savoy of Jennings, 4-2, 27.5; third, Larry Pertuit of Marrero and Mack Thibodeaux of Lake Arthur, 3-2, 20.3.
Team Ricardo/Reed defeated Team Fryou/Savoy in a 60 shoe playoff game and claimed the class championship
Class A Women’s Doubles
First, Pat Pertuit of Marrero and Sharla Fontenot of Lacassine, 5-1, 45.7; second, Angela Percle of Morgan City and Bobbie Richard of Church Point, 4-2, 44.7; third, Linda Dodson of Morgan City and Edie Corso of Destrahan, 3-2, 33.8.
At the end of regulation Teams Pertuit/Fontenot and Percle/Richard were tied. After playing a 60 shoe playoff, Team Pertuit/Fontenot claimed the Class A Womens title and were named Women’s Tournament Champions.
