'Jacks, 'Jills win in Tuesday basketball action

Patterson High School’s boys and girls basketball teams were in action Tuesday night at Patterson with both teams coming away with a win.
’Jacks 56, Tigers 37
The Lumberjacks (8-3A) got off to a slow start against the Breaux Bridge Tigers (5-4A) in a game that was a back-and-forth contest in the first half with the home-team holding a slim halftime lead of 20-18. But the ’Jacks rebounded in the second have to take a 56-37 victory.
For the ’Jacks, senior Jordan Butler was the high scorer with 15 points followed by Elija Williams with 11, Kai Schexnayder put up 10 while Tyric Garrett contributed nine. Also adding to the scoreboard were Dajon Richard with six; John Brooks and Drew Lucas each had two and Khyri Harris added a free throw.
Last night’s win brings the ’Jacks record to 2-2. The ’Jacks will be in action again on Dec. 15 against Central Catholic High School when the teams meet in the Lumberjack Invitational being held Dec. 15-17.
’Jills 44, Lady Trojans 41
The first game Tuesday night was the Lumberjills (8-3A) taking on Central Lafourche Lady Trojans (7-5A). In the first quart, the ’Jills outscored the Lady Trojans 10-5. The visitors closed the gap to trail by only four at half, 24-20. The game stayed close with a third-quarter score of 35-32 and a final of 44-41, both in favor of the ’Jills.
High scorer for the ’Jills was Erykah Singleton with 19 points followed by Makayia Ruiz with 16, Kemiah Watson added six and Kenyonte Jones put up three.
The ’Jills will be in action again Thursday at 6 p.m. at home against Hanson Memorial.
